“Unique Farm Experience with Wine Tasting”

Aspen Dale Winery at the Barn

The Aspen Dale Winery is literally in a beautiful old barn on a farm with ponies nearby for petting. The staff was very friendly, the wine was good and each tasting was paired with a small bit of sausage, cheese, or chocolate to enhance the flavors of the wine. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the barn where it was easy to hear each and enjoy each other.

For the price tasting/experience for the price. They give you a small plate with some cubes of cheese, slivers of sausage, and some chocolate chips. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was just us at the bar, but as we were leaving a huge group of 15 came in so you never know what to expect. The Chapeau was my favorite, and the prices of the bottles were reasonable. If we were not in a rush to get home I would have kicked back and had a glass or two because the inside of the barn had that rustic but cozy feel to it.

Having been to Aspen Dale before, I wasn't sure what to expect.
~ our first visit was 50/50.

This time we were treated as special guests. The tasting room is built into an old bar, and is comfy kitchz. The tasting was enjoyable and each wine is paired with a unique food (cheese, chocolates, meats, etc....) Very unique! Our server, Taylor, kept us focused and gave us just enough details.

The surrounding grounds, gardens, barns, etc.... are most relaxing. We could have sat there for hours - thankfully they're open until 8pm!

Wines: Good
Ambiance: Friendly & fun
Food: ? (brought our own)
Service: Friendly and professional
Parking: Ample, dirty lot

We wouldn't have stopped here if it hadn't been recommended by a server at another winery (always ask the people who pour the wine where else they like to go). This place is an old barn, and it's charming/funky/eclectic, etc. The winer experience is wonderful. They serve you a little plate of small portions of cheese, chocolate and other items to use as pairings with their tastings. Like many of the other area wineries, their selection is small, and their names are very idiosyncratic, but the wines are generally very good, and most seem would get better with some aging. My wife generally dislikes rosés, but really liked their Mary Madeleine. Don't miss a chance to go up the spiral stairs to the upper floor. Just a neat place to visit.

We tried this place out for the first time yesterday and were blown away by the experience. The property is adorable with tons of outdoor and indoor seating. The property is well-maintained and has cute details such as a little pond and waterfall, seating hidden under a tree, and butterfly gardens. The restored barn is so cozy and beautiful and contains wonderful touches throughout. Pick a couch to lounge on, or a table and chairs. The highlight of the visit was the tasting. They do a wine and food pairing, which is unique...I have not seen this done at other VA wineries. They present a little plate with tiny bits of different items to try at different stages of the tasting. The foods on the plate were wonderful in their own right, especially the "green cheese" and the sausages. The owners were doing the tastings the day we went and their deep knowledge of wine, and food pairings was educational, entertaining, and not a hint of "snob". These folks just love wine and food. The wine...guess I should mention that! I did not have one that I did not enjoy, especially with the certain food flavors. These were some of the best wines I have had in the area, although personal taste weighs in on that. I can't stress enough how much these folks seem to love what they do.
