Melissa, Shannon and Connor went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Delicious breakfasts and generous hospitality. We stayed only 2 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. We look forward to our next stay at the Dancing Bear.

This was our second year in a row to stay at the Dancing Bear while riding the Virginia Creeper Trail. The rooms are super clean and Melissa and Shannon are fantastic hosts.

The breakfast couldn't be better.

Hopefully, I will have the opportunity to stay again! I definitely recommend it.

The Dancing Bear B&B provided the perfect ending to my Appalachian Trail section-hike this summer. I met up with my wife & oldest daughter there and we all stayed in the Papa Bear room. This particular accommodation features one large room with three beds (a queen and two doubles), as well as a private bath and kitchenette with refrigerator and microwave. Everything is extremely clean.

Melissa's breakfasts were outstanding...be sure and ask for her egg quiche. Additional fare included fruit, granola, waffles, biscuits w/gravy and Melissa's famous egg quiche. Many times, the breakfast was so filling that we didn't have to eat lunch!

AT hikers are very insistent upon tasty coffee on the trail but Melissa's coffee was great.

What sets The Dancing Bear apart is Melissa's hospitality. Damascus is known for its friendliness but Melissa went "above and beyond". She recommended several sights for us to see and quaint little towns for us to visit during our stay.

My wife & I just returned from a weekend in the Brother Bear suite & it was excellent!! It is very roomy & very comfortable! It has a microwave, small refrigerator & kitchenette as well as direct TV & it's own private bathroom (most of their suite do). The Inn is super Cozy. We viewed all the rooms & suites & they are all great!! The grounds have a hammock, hot tub, lots of outdoor seating and a great front sitting porch right on Main street + loads of sun or shade for whatever you desire all under the back drop of the Appalachian Mountains. The famous Appalachian Trail goes right down the side walk in front of this Inn so it's a very active town, known as "The Friendliest Town on the Trail". Once you park your vehicle, there's no reason to ever get back in it until you leave!! Everyone in town bikes or walks & the Dancing Bear is in the Dead Center of town! Being a fellow long distance hiker, this is a perfect spot to rest up & grab a zero or 2 of quiet time. Or like we did, rent a bike & grab a shuttle from one of the many outfitters in town & do the 17 miles (all downhill) trek from White top Mountain back into Damascus (@ 3 hours). Serious biker can bike into Abingdon or Whitetop & back both @ 35 miles round trip all along the scenic Va Creeper trail. Hikers can grab a shuttle out of town up the Appalachian Trail or Iron Mountain Trail & dayhike back into town. I Highly recommend this Inn to everyone & Melissa & Shannon make it all the better! Shannon even drove us up to Backbone rock where he personally hiked with us showing us all around. Great Stay!!

Room Tip: Great variety for the any budget! The rooms inside the home are nice sized & share a bathroom, t...

Wow. This was my first stay at a B&B and I believe that Dancing Bear folks Mellissa, Shannon and Conner set a standard for hospitality in a beautiful location that may never be matched!
We stayed in the Papa Bear, a large room with space for my 2 sons and my wife and I. The room was part of an outbuilding built in 2000 to the original house built in 1904 so it had its own mini kitchen and private bath. It was clean, bright and maintained. The main house was gorgeous on the inside, well kept up and the grounds are perfect for relaxing in the shade, having a barbecue or tossing a football with the boys as Shannon, Conner and my boys did together during our down time.
We had come off the AT trail a day earlier than expected and Melissa was able to get our room ready and we were in. They were so kind in getting us oriented to the area...where to go for eats, Creeper Trail info, bike rentals...
Since our clothing and gear were wet due to the rains, Shannon set up a line for us so we could hang our gear.
The next 2 mornings Mellissa made an extraordinary breakfast...quiche, pancakes, bacon eggs, angel food cake and other pastries, fresh fruit.... Very well fueled up for our activities.
We even had time to all go out together one evening and my youngest played the piano in the house and after Melissa played and we all sang together.
We went to stay at a B&B and left feeling we stayed with close family. Goodbyes weren't easy...
We so look forward to returning...

Outstanding! Melissa, Shannon & Connor were more than hospitable during our stay. We stayed in the sister bear room. The room was perfect, clean & had a private bath. Great value & location! We partook in playing a favorite yard game corn hole & enjoyed relaxing on the covered porch. Breakfast was incredible w/ amazing quiche, fruit & yummy muffins. We even played music & sang together. Such a wonderful overnight stay in Demascus! We will definitely be back! Thank you for the southern love!

We were one of Bob and Diana's first people to stay after they bought the Dancing Bear. They are two of the best people I have ever met traveling. We started staying with them while attending the Bristol Races every year and it has changed to staying with our Grandchildren and riding the Creeper Trail to just a long weekend away. We were there for Trail Days and it was a blast!!! Couldn't believe how many people were there. We have ALWAYS ENJOYED our time in Damascus and at the Dancing Bear.

Room Tip: We usually stay in Mama Bear when we have the grandchildren, but have also stayed in the smaller roo...
