Owner description: King Family Vineyards is a family owned and operated winery located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Crozet, Virginia just fifteen minutes from Charlottesville. The winery specializes in the production of ultra-premium wines that showcase the remarkable quality and terroir of the Monticello AVA. Beginning with carefully selected estate grapes, winemaker Matthieu Finot creates wines inspired by the old world, but are uniquely expressive of Virginia. Our passion is the customer, our craft is the wine. "When you visit our winery, you are coming to our home. We hope that you enjoy the fruits of our labor as much as we enjoy sharing them with you." -The King Family

I've been to several wineries in northern and central Virginia, and this one is now one of my favorites. What I look for in a winery is great wine, friendly and knowledgeable staff, a relaxing atmosphere, and picturesque setting. King Family had these qualities in abundance. We did not find it overly crowded and the atmosphere was very charming and low key. Our tasting was very reasonably priced and we were given the glass as a souvenir. The woman who served us was very friendly and knowledgeable about the wines. She also told us the history of the winery. The family who owns the winery is from Texas, which you can tell from the tastefully decorated tasting room. She also gave us an extra tasting from a bottle not listed in the tasting menu. We also bought two bottles of wine to take home with us. We bought a glass of wine and relaxed in their charming dining area with a lunch we brought with us and looked out at the beautiful mountainous setting. Apparently when it gets warmer you can watch polo matches on the land, and the winery uses golf carts to serve the spectators. It sounded like a popular event, and I'd like to come back for it. Overall, it was a really nice, relaxing time.

Gorgeous! Scenic! Peaceful! Rustic! We had a beautiful time at this venue. Something we will never forget. The caterer, DJ, and decor were provided by outside vendors. The winery provided a restored barn. Loved every minute of our experience!

My husband and I had a few hours to spend in the Charlottesville area and friends recommended Kind Family Vineyards in Crozet. The vineyard is located on a beautiful piece of property, has a very knowledgable staff, and a collection of delicious wines. We particularly enjoyed their Chardonnay and 7! 7 is great port-like wine and so delicious (I'm not generally a port drinker.) We loved the ambience and stayed awhile to enjoy a glass of wine and play a game of checkers in their inviting tasting room.

At any time of year, the King Family Vineyards is a great way to spend a few relaxing hours sharing great wine with friends and family. The view from the patio is fantastic, and in the summer there are polo matches as well as a view of a large pond that often hosts ducks, geese and occasionally a great blue heron. There is a lot of grass for kids to run around on while you sit and relax. In cooler weather the windows in the tasting room room offer an equally picturesque perspective, and the fireplace offers exterior warmth to add to the interior heat brought on by drinking one of the great vintages on offer either as whole bottles, or take in a wine tasting to sample everything and then decide. There is a variety of cheese, crackers and other snacks on sale. They are open late on the first Wednesday of the month so you can stick around after sunset.

Not my favorite wines but overall a pleasant and informative tasting experience. The polo grounds are lovely and the staff is terrific. I go back often and have never been disappointed.
