My friend and I were exploring Colonial Beach and asked one of the local store owners downtown about a good place for lunch that had some waterside atmosphere. She suggested the Dockside, which is a couple miles or so out of town. (Just follow the road parallel to the Potomac, until you can't go any further!) It is nothing fancy, just a come as you are, shorts and t-shirt kind of place where you can sit totally outside, partially outside, or in the very cool air-conditioned dining room. We went for the middle ground, a view of the beach and the "tiki huts" but not all the way outside. We wished that they had installed ceiling fans, as they did on the outside porch, in this part too. The menu has a pretty wide selection of seafood and other dishes. We both went straight for the crab cake sandwich, which comes with a side of either potato salad or cole slaw. We also got a side of hush puppies. The crab cake was a generous ball of flavor, with a good ratio of crab to filler, and overflowed the hamburger bun when squished down to eat. Hush puppies were a little sweet and very rich, studded with kernels of corn and oh, so yummy! We were not into tropical drinks that afternoon, but this would be a good place to relax with one if one was in the mood, as they have a good selection of choices and just the right atmosphere. In short, this was just the thing for a Saturday lunch at the beach!

We visited this restaurant last Sunday afternoon. It was late for the lunch crowd but early for the dinner crowd, a beautiful day out and we choose this restaurant because of it's proximity to the water. When we arrived we asked the hostess about outdoor seating and she said she had nothing but something in direct sun so we settled for an indoor table. After sitting there for quite some time our waiter came running from outside to take our drink order. There had been two other tables of customers inside but they had left and we were now all alone in the dining room. (Which by the way had the shades pulled down so that there was no view outside.) My husband went to the restroom and on his way back noticed tables outside of the dining room on an open air area which I guess is the bar area. As our waiter ran by with our drinks and we yelled our appetizer order after him we asked if there was any chance we could move out to that area. He said we would have to ask the hostess, so my husband did and she very begrudgingly helped us carry our glasses of water and silverware to a hightop table just inside the large open garage doors. Yes, all the "outside" tables that weren't in direct sun were filled but why we weren't offered this area to begin with is beyond me. After moving we had much better service (as our waiter didn't have to remember to come inside to check on us or be running between indoors and outside, we had the Oysters Rockefeller appetizer and crabcake sandwiches, which were all excellent. We would eat here again and next time know not to ask for outside seating but perhaps water view is most appropriate?

Was disappointed when we arrived on Prime Rib night to find out that they were sold out. I Facebook messaged them to ask if we need reservations and they saw my message and never responded. None the less, we opted to stay. We had Oysters on the half shell, hushpuppies, Steak and Cheese sub, Mushroom burger, Flouder Fish sandwich and Seafood Norfolk.
All the food was good. Our server was great. The outside area is neat with beautiful views.

Great times can be had here. We follow a local band and when they come this place is packed in a good way. Even if there's nothing major going on it's still a wonderful place to eat socialize and have a great time. The staff is awesome and the view is great.

We walked to this place on a 95 degree sweltering day, arrived at 1pm to find it CLOSED! So much for the cold beer hydration.

Nothing going on in this "rivah" town until the weekend. Went back for dinner and place is nice, people nice, waitress was a cutie, food was good. No complaints. Would go back.
