“Christmas retreat”
Reviewed January 18, 2014

We arrived Christmas Eve night and received a warm welcome in a newly refurbished lobby. Because of the cold, blustery weather, were given a second floor room which is accessed through an interior lobby. First floor rooms open directly to the outside so, while we had to climb outside steps, the interior hallway helped to keep our room temperature constant and comfortable. We have stayed here during past holiday visits, but the new owner's efforts to refurbish and update the facilities - inside and out - clearly improves the look and our comfort. Our room and bathroom were clean and the room had new furniture and comfortable beds. We used the room as a retreat while helping an elderly relative in town set up our traditional family Christmas. It turns out that we were the only guests that night, but we still received a modest and welcome breakfast on Christmas morning. On our next overnight visit to Colonial Beach, this will be our first, and only choice.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are warmer on cold winter nights

this was my first time visiting C.B and stayed at this hotel for 1 night. Betty at the front desk was very friendly and informed us on the hotels accomodations. the room was nice, clean, and quiet, they had a continental breakfast that consist of pastries, cereal, fruit, milk, juice and tea, you can tell the hotel had been updated with paint and furniture, king size bed was nice with microwave and refrig, the grounds were well kept. hotel is in walking distance to everything. i plan to stay here again on my visits to C.B.

I had heard horror stories of the old owners and change overs..but upon arrival was pleasantly surprised at the clean nice room and remodeled efforts! Great fresh continental breakfast and eating space.Shirley?Owners daughter? was great and friendly..remembering names and addressing you by them as a personal touch.Redeeming factor for Korean culture and attitude..as I think she is? After staying at dude at the OTHER Motel at end of strip(Wakefield) where my husband and I experienced a nut case manager? walking around looking angry most of the time it seems or yelling at the lady on the desk that runs all over trying to do it all it would appear! Place stunk of smoke and gritty floor rooms..had ashtrays on every ac unit outside with butts so guess thats what draws all the smoke INTO the NON SMOKING ROOM! What a Joke!
So i guess this is a double review! GOOO to the Rivers Edge Hotel and be right on the Board Walk and nice gravel beach area..with a right AT HOME feeling! DON'T GO to Wakefield Motel..you get what ya pay for! Get a B&B service or the only descent place to stay in Colonial Beach .The Rivers Edge!! Just Hope they keep it up!Good Job!

You can not beat the location of the Inn it is walking distance to everything. The room was an excellent size and has been completely remodeled. Duvet covers on the bed and new carpet just make it look so nice. The grounds are clean and we were sorry the pool was closed for the season because it looked very large. The family that owns this was so hospitable. We are so excited they bought this place and fixed it up so that we can have a wonderful weekend get a way. The rates are amazing too.

The hotel was recently remodeled. It was a great place to stay and the owners are very nice people. Our check in time was 3 p.m. but we had an invite to attend so they managed to get us in earlier. Pool area was very nice and clean - rooms extremely clean.

It was our first time with our almost 3 years old toddler and my family in that nice peaceful area of Virginia. We picked out this hotel because of its great location on the edge of Potomac River and downtown shopping and restaurants. The town is not so big, so personally for myself I enjoyed walking to the food lion and dollar general stores, you can also rent a golf cart, it is convenient way to ride around. We spent 10 days at the River Edge Inn, and we were greatly satisfied with everything: service, accommodation and help of the owners of the personnel and staff. It is only 1 hour and a half from where we live in Richmond and we took a nice no traffic country road , it is much easier and less stressful to get to there than to Virginia Beach, plus it is much quit and safe in Colonial Beach. The hotel rates are great, compared to the not so nice hotel like Savannah Suites with roaches and terrible beds ... Etc. I paid 95 dollars for the poor accommodation in Norfolk and was happy to relax and rest in nice beds at River Edge Inn. I would highly recommend this hotel who loves to spend quality time with their family and kids and enjoy the waterfront and peaceful environment for the unbeatable prices. Special thanks to Anita, her mom, Linda and Heather and housekeeper Jakie and all the hotel team who made our first stay so special. We can't wait to see you all soon and be back to your nice hotel!

My wife and I just spent three nights at the River Edge Inn while on a little vacation (Sept 17 thru Sept 20th 2013) We were made welcome, all the staff so friendly and helpful. The room was spotless and neat and had all we needed. Twin Queens, Flat screen, coffee maker, hair dryer, microwave, mini fridge and good working wifi ( which is hard to find in Colonial Beach) They offer maid service daily if you want. and a very good continental breakfast every morning in the lobby. The rates were very good, of course we visited in off season (after labor day) so that helped, but I think their Summer rates when the beach is in full swing are reasonable too. This was our first visit to Colonial Beach, a really neat old beach community. We liked it a lot. Good restaurants and fun shops of all types.
