We rented the Potomac Retreat Center for a week for our family of 11 people that included 7 grandchildren. We also had 4 others join us for the weekend. It is very nicely located on the bank of the Potomac, next to a large parking lot and kayak rental, plus being an easy walk to the swimming pool. The big disappointment for was the false advertising of two queen sized beds. They have 1 queen-sized bed and one double bed with a frame that was queen-sized before being cut down to accommodate the double-bed mattress. That included making it shorter, which was a problem for me since I am 5 inches taller than the bed. If they had left the frame at queen-sized length then it would be much better for me. They need to change their website to correctly describe the beds or buy a queen sized bed.

We had four different minor issues during our stay and each time they responded quickly to resolve each issue. The center consists of what was two houses that have been joined together. Hence, there are two kitchens, two dining rooms and two living rooms plus 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. With two kitchens there are two electric stoves and two refrigerators, each with freezers. We only used one dish washer. It is adequately furnished with cooking utensils and there are enough dishes, glasses and eating utensils for 16. We ate most of our meals at tables on the deck looking out on the Potomac. They also had an adequate number of towels and wash clothes. We did bring our towels for the pool. They had extra folding tables and folding chairs that could be used. We needed to buy extra paper towels and dish washing soap for the dish washer and hand washing dishes, and salt & pepper. There are closets for hanging clothes, but no clothes hangers, so bring your own. There is a nice Food Lion in Montross. The furnishings were not new by any means, but acceptable, except for the double-bed rather than the advertised queen-bed. We brought a griddle we use for camping that fit on two burners of the electric stove that worked great for pancakes and French toast.

We are here for days with nine friends. Rented a very large home right on the water.
Not a large park but lots to do here. Boating, swimming beach, cabins picnic area, hiking and playgrounds. Not a lot of hiking trail but enough to keep you busy for a few hours. Beautiful location right on the Potomac River. Numerous campgrounds are also avail able. Great for day use

We took a day trip to Fossil Beach to search for shark Teeth. Most people we're not having any luck but we found two. It is a small beach, but nice. The hike to the beach was nice as well. A fun day.

My husband and I have been going to Westmoreland every year in September. It’s nice a quiet and so peaceful. We love to fish, watch the Eagles, the Heron and the deer in the early evening. The cabins and park are nice and clean and we love they have added queen size beds. The staff has always been very nice. Nothing to complain about. I’ll give them a big A+++++
