“Pool, beach, and rental cabins - very nice”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

This was a nice place for a day trip, although there seemed to be enough to do and see if you wanted to stay longer. They have rental cabins, some of which were close to the Potomac River (The Potomac River Retreat house.) There was a $3.00 vehicle parking fee for the day. We went to the pool which was along the river; there was a $4.00 per person per day fee. The pool was quite nice with bathrooms, showers, lifeguards, diving boards, and a slide. They also had a snack stand near the pool. There are also miles of trails. They also have lots of picnic tables. There were two picnic pavilions available for rent for large groups. This park was was worthwhile visiting.

“A nice park with a pool, rental cabins and much more”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

This a beautiful park with several miles of paved roads perfect for biking. It also has a pool, many picnic areas, camping, rental cabins and I believe mountain bike trails as well. We were just there for a brief visit but I would like to return.

“Beautiful State Park - Fun for All!”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

We camped at Westmoreland St. Park for one night over July 4th weekend. It is a gorgeous State Park with many things to do. We took our 2 boys, ages 2 and 3, who had a great time at the beach and at our campsite (Campground B). They offered numerous activities (S'mores Party, Lightning Bug Hunt, Shark's Tooth Adventure, etc.) that we look forward to taking advantage of when we come back for a longer duration. I was quite impressed with the long list of things they had scheduled!

The campsites were nice and shady, very clean, and spacious but some sites were closer together than we'd like. However, if you get there early, you can find plenty of spots that are more private. The firewood was affordable (you have to purchase there) and made for a delightful fire! Even though the park was almost full, the noise level was very low - impressive. The staff was pleasant and helpful.

I recommend a visit to the local beach which has kayaks and watercraft that you can rent. It's a lovely spot and my boys loved wading in the calm water. They have grill equipment if you wish to cookout and a small shop that has a few items but no restaurant. We didn't get to hike to fossil beach to look for shark's teeth but we'll do that next time.

I must say, I was hesitant to try a new place after we learned our favorite spot was booked, but Westmoreland turned out to be a new favorite for our family.

“Great State Park for Camping, Recreation”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

We spent July 4th Weekend at Westmoreland State Park. We camped in a motorhome in Campground A. The park is huge and has lots to do, including hiking, children's activities, kayaking, paddleboards and paddle boats. The park is very clean. From the Visitor Center, there's an amazing view of the Potomac River, which is very wide as it gets close to the Chesapeake Bay.

The campground is shaded and the site we had was very level. Each site has a fire grate for a campfire or grilling. We had water and electric hook-ups. The campground bathrooms are pretty clean, but small so shower lines can back up at peak times.

The park staff were very friendly. My children enjoyed making a shark's tooth necklace. They have a huge pool, which does get crowded on weekends with day visitors, but on a weekday, it's not so bad.

The park is close to the George Washington Birthplace National Monument and Stratford Hall, Robert E Lee's birthplace. Both places are well worth a visit - I enjoyed them both and would recommend them to others. There are also vineyards in the area. We drove to Colonial Beach, which is a short drive away - nice little beach town.

I'm sure this would be a great weekend getaway in the Fall as well.

“Second visit is a charmer too”
Reviewed June 26, 2013

Sometimes when we revisit a previous park or campground, it is just not the same or as good as we remembered. Well, this one proves to be not one of those. It is a fabulous, well kept and interesting area of tidal Virginia. The campsites are pristine and rugged, filled with trees and foliage. Water pressure was fine and so the electric connections. It is peaceful, especially when we come during the week. I would imagine that the weekends are quite busy and we would enjoy it less. There are still some areas of historic significance in the area we have missed this time, but we will return again.
