“A Good Inexpensive Option”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2010

While I've never stayed at a microtel before my first experience was a positive one. I made a reservation as it was a good stopping point for the start of my trip. I was unsure as to whether or not to book as I had read mixed reviews, but the rate was great. Upon arrival the woman at the front desk was very friendly and informative. Check in was quick, efficent, and an overall positive start to the stay. The room itself is smaller in size, but very clean. It is a bit off the I-81 but the location is easily accessible, and there are several dining options close by. Overall for a stopover I would reccomend this hotel as the price is very reasonable.

We came to Christiansburg because there was no availability in Radford,VA for the Highlanders Festival and Parent's weekend. The room was fairly clean ( the ventialtion units and carpets were quite dirty). I have never, ever seen a room quite as small as the one we recieved. If you rent here, take my advice and book a suite or a double room; when you open the door to the room, you are about 3 feet from the bed!

Also, note that there are no coffee makers in the room. We wanted to sleep in and forgo the bagels, cereal and muffins. But because we had no coffee maker, we had to get dressed and go two floors down to the lobby, just for a cup of joe!
In all fairness...it was ok for the price.

We stayed one night as the first part of a longer trip. Booked the room through Expedia and paid $53 which I believe is an outstanding price. The room was very clean, albeit small. The hotel was full of families dropping their kids off at Virginia Tech and so the whole place had a good vibe. One quick note is that you have to ask for shampoo from the desk although the room had soap already. We had a single queen for the night which was not bad. Our biggest complaint is that it was clear that people had at one time or recently smoked in the rooms or hall. While the room did not smell strongly of smoke, it definitely had the smell in the hall and air. Nothing too bad, but if you are sensitive then this place will probably not work for you. Breakfast was good for a continental spread, and the best part was that it looks as if there are some great running places right off of the back of the hotel. Wireless internet worked great without too much lag, and all amenities were available as advertised. I might mention that this is a little bit off of I-81, but it was really worth it for the price and experience.

We were looking at Virginia Tech and this hotel was very close (5 minute drive) and pretty cheap. It was near many restaurants and stores, and it felt very safe. The rooms were a bit smaller than average hotel rooms, but the beds were comfortable and the whole room was VERY clean. The biggest disappointment was the "continental" breakfast, which was made up of doughnuts, 2 cereals, and juice. Despite that, we were very pleased with this hotel, and we will consider using Microtel more in the future.

I selected this hotel for my weekend trip to Va. Tech because of the previous reviews and the good price. This hotel was clean. Single room had only a full sized bed and it wasn't very comfortable. The pillows were soft, but almost too soft in that my neck was crooked sleeping on my side. Room was small with a small TV. It did have a nice bench sitting area near the window. Bathroom was small but usable for one person at a time. Bring your own shampoo and hair dryer. Had wireless internet access which wasn't too slow. Breakfast consisted of cereal, bagels, pastry, donuts, coffee, juice, milk. Sound proofing was average for a hotel of this price. Staff was quite friendly and informative.

My husband & I stayed there two nights for a visit to Virginia Tech.
We booked the hotel for 45$/night that was very good.
The room & beds were very clean. The breakfast was included.
There was no coffee maker in our room, but when we asked them for a cup of coffee, they let us pour a coffee from coffee machine for free.
all in all it was a very good experience compare with the price.

Stayed there one evening in a suite. Everything was very basic. I would consider it good value for the money. The chain itself has won the J.D. Powers award the last 7 years years for budget hotels, so I was curious about the chain.
