My husband and I made an early reservation for Bill's for a special dinner. We weren't sure what to expect and were pleased to see the white linen on the tables, sparkling glassware and impressive menu. We chose the "smothered flounder" and the prime rib with a side of mushrooms. Each had a side of mashed potatoes with ham hocks and cheddar cheese (delicious).
The atmosphere started to go downhill; however, as more and more people arrived - without a reservation - bringing their entire party into the small gathering area (right next to our table). The hot air from a July evening started pouring in. Adding to the heat, we had people literally staring at our table and that turned our romantic dinner into a rather awkward affair. We rushed through our course and took our dessert to go. Before we left, we turned the small bench towards the door and suggested they keep our "redecorating". In short, do NOT sit in booth #1 at the door.
We took a brumble berry pie home and it was delicious. Made by the owners who also own the bakery down the street.
We have two suggestions. One, for Trip Advisor Patrons - make a reservation and request a table well towards the back. Two, for Bills... put a sign outside saying, "If you do not have a reservation, please kindly send one member of your party inside to check on the timing. We have a small vestibule and cannot accommodate multiple groups. You will appreciate this when your turn comes...."
