The Channel Bass Inn is a very professionally run operation with superb attention to detail and high standards that also takes great pride in creating a genuinely welcoming and personal atmosphere of the sort you'd normally expect when visiting family or close friends. Never been anywhere quite like it. Barbara and David clearly love what they do and it shows. Immaculate and spacious room (we had a suite with a sitting room), delicious and generously portioned home made breakfasts, and a wonderful and abundant English tea service - loved those tea sandwiches and the fresh baked ginger scones. My husband also appreciated the reliable WiFi connection and the TV in our room - thoughtul features you don't always find at B&Bs. Our time at Channel Bass was relaxing and lovely, and perfectly framed our delightful experience on Chincoteague Island.

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at the Channel Bass Inn on Chincoteague Island!
Where to start? Owners David and Barbara truly have the gift of hospitality: interesting, warm and welcoming without overwhelming their guests. Their amenities are well-chosen- from bicycles and beach supplies to hairdryers and books and wi-fi and TV (if you just have to have it). Then there was the food! Barbara's breakfasts and afternoon tea absolutely lived up to all the reviews: add ours to the list! Don't plan a big dinner if you take tea that afternoon - the sandwiches! the scones! the jams! the cakes! Don't plan a big lunch, either, if you eat all your breakfast (though that is probably impossible). Even our fellow guests were enjoyable and interesting table companions, from varied walks of life. How did Barbara and David manage that, too?
The inn itself is an older home and thus full of personality, which we prefer to a motel chain. There was always candy in candy dishes and a handwritten note from Barbara and David posted at the end of the day to remind us all of the breakfast plan we'd discussed for the morning. Last but not least, our bed was supremely comfortable and we slept great.

Room Tip: We're tall, so the extra room of a suite was a good choice for us. Ours got lovely afternoon sun...

We stayed here this past weekend. We enjoy B&B's but so many of them are not welcoming to young children. We were excited when we found that this one was. Our daughters 9 and 6 got their first experience in a B&B and are hooked now! They loved the idea that we were staying in a "home" vs. a typical hotel.

Our room was perfect for us. We had a separate bed room and a sitting room with a sofa bed that worked great for the girls. The common rooms were spacious yet cozy for conversation with other guests. Breakfast was great both days with a good variety of foods. We liked the family style seating as it afforded us another chance to engage in conversation with other guests. Our girls loved that there were a couple other families staying with children close in age as them. They made friends right away and were often found out in the back yard playing together while the parents relaxed inside. We even had an egg hunt for the girls in the garden, something that would have been difficult in a regular hotel setting.

Barbara and David were excellent hosts! If you asked Barbara about a reservation for something she got your request and took care of it straight away! She recommended dinning and a wonderful boat trip for us. And if you are at the Inn on a Thursday or Saturday you need to experience the English Tea. Not only was the tea great but the baked goods were outstanding! We love scones and Barbara made some fantastic varieties.

All in all a very rewarding experience. We will be back!

Our stay at the Channel Bass Inn was absolutely wonderful! We have an 8 year old daughter and were pleased to find something other than your standard hotel on Chincoteague where children are welcome. We were visiting the area for our daughter's birthday, and the inkeepers really made sure that her experience there was not only delightful, but that she felt special on her special day.

Our room was lovely, clean, and well maintained. The bed, linens, and furnishings were all comfortable. The inn is nicely decorated, spacious yet cozy, and has a lovely garden area in the back that is enjoyable even at the end of the winter. Parking behind the inn was ample, and our room was quiet. There were several other families with multiple children, and either the rooms are well insulated, or the children were quite well behaved.

The breakfast was phenomenal and featured multiple courses with an international flair, and tremendous hospitality from the innkeepers, Barbara and David. The afternoon Tea was my first experience with a traditional Tea, and I was overwhelmed with the quantity of delicious food that Barbara prepared for us. Crustless tea sandwiches, ginger scones topped with homemade whipped cream and jam, followed by a choice of three different cakes. The creme de la creme however, was Barbara's surprise of a Victorian Sponge cake with strawberries, complete with candles and "Happy Birthday" sung by all, for our very astonished little girl! It was truly touching and something we will never forget.

Barbara and David go out of their way to make their guests comfortable and at home, and are well connected within the Chincoteague community, knowing where to go and when to do it, and who to talk to. We will definitely return!

We came for the weekend to celebrate my birthday and the Channel Bass Inn was the perfect choice. The place is beautiful, warm, and the breakfast fabulous. Definitely try to fit in Tea so you don't miss out on the amazing scones. The innkeepers give great restaurant suggestions and help in any way they can. When we learned from Barbara that she had been running the B&B for 22 years - we told her she is as nice as if she were on the job for the first day. Definitely stay at the Bass Channel Inn!

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay here. We came over New Year's, ate at Bill's down the street at Barbara's suggestion, and nestled in the Ambleside Suite. The king bed was comfortable and the room was spotless. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the table setting made us feel very posh indeed. We were fed so much that we didn't eat until dinner! Barbara and David are helpful without being intrusive at all, and are the perfect hosts. We'll be back! Terri D.
