“A great place to relax and enjoy the view.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 13, 2009

We have been coming to Chincoteague at least once a year, for years. The staff here knows us and is very friendly. We have tried one or two other places including the Waterside Inn. Nothing comes close to the Island Motor Inn as far as we are concerned. We always go off season as we enjoy the water birds in the spring and the snow geese in the fall,

After staying at another facility closer to the refuge only to be greatly disappointed in rooms, our group of 20-30 that travel each year in mid-November stay at the Island Motor Inn. During each and every visit the rooms have been EXCEPTIONALLY CLEAN, very comfortable beds and spectacular views. Staff has ALWAYS been friendly and helpful even when traveling group of 15 or more arrive to check-in around the same time on a Friday 6-7 p.m.! Although a microwave would be nice (not included), there are numerous lodging facilities that do not offer a microwave, primarily due to liability issues as they relate to insurance premiums! However, the rooms do include a fridge. The covered balconies face west, with a commanding view of Chincoteague Sound. Our group is planning another trip this year in mid-November and we've already booked our rooms at this great facility.

After perusing the Island Motor Inn’s website, I decided to reserve a room for a long weekend. When I arrived, I found a room which was a gross misrepresentation of what appeared on their website – a smelly, dirty, dingy dump. The sheets were thin and grayish rather than white and as I mentioned a strong and offensive odor emanated from the room. When the management couldn’t give us another room, we left, but they insisted on charging us for the night. Luckily we found another room at a nearby inn which was beautiful. Hence, I would NOT recommend the Island Motor Inn to anyone interested in comfortable and clean accommodation in Chincoteague! I wish I had read a review like this before making the booking.

We picked this motor inn after reading reviews that seemed to be consistent in their praise. We did not find their comments to match our experience at all. Staff did not go out of their way to be friendly, the rooms are badly in need of renovation, no hairdryer (though the front desk offers a loaner) and the carpet in our room was badly soiled. Breakfast is not included in the price and while there is a breakfast cafe sharing the parking lot it was badly understaffed (the only waitress also delivered room service to motel guests) and noisy when a family with small children arrived. The location is on a boat canal looking west towards the water and mainland. It will be very close to the soon-to-open new bridge that replaces an old causeway condemned for many years which is the only way to get onto the island currently. There is a newer section of this motel that may be nicer but costs more. When making an advance reservation there is no online capability and email messages are not answered promptly. There are much better [and cheaper] places to stay on the island. It is a mystery to us that anyone could give this motel any higher rating. However, they did suggest we go to Bill's for dinner and it was great!

Family holiday getaway was very nice. At check-in the staff was very friendly and helpful. Got into the room an hour before check in time. Room has a great view from a small balcony, the resort is very well maintained. All amenities were open and worked, best gym I've seen while traveling. Can't beat the view from the hot tub or hammock, just relaxing with a beer watching boats pass in the canal. The restaurant should be passed, good food, but the service. The only waitress (one out sick) was working the tables and running food to the rooms for the room service. You have to get lunch at the Sea Star, best sandwhiches on the island and a great value.

The Inn is located such that all rooms face the bay. Spectacular views! We especially enjoyed sitting at our balcony in the morning while we munched on our cereal before heading for the beach. The building itself is comtemporary Bay architecture with stained wood balconies. There is a well done boardwalk for romantic or contemplative walks (fantastic sunsets). Small indoor and outdoor pools offer nice alternative to the beach once you have thoroughly baked enough. The room we had was a double queen bed. The decor is incompatible with the architecture, but typical for two star hospitality. At least it's fairly simple for what it is, and comfortable enough, and just adequate in size. Above all, it very clean. There is a bar fridge under the vanity. No means to make tea of coffee in your room. No lockbox. Hi-speed internet scarcely worked on my trip- allegedly due to the storms that had passed (I was trying to track the weather). There is an adult-only lounge on the third floor with a hot tub that also faces the Bay. And, there is a massage therapist that works out of the Inn, tho she was not available on the saturday that I inquired. There were lots of other families and retirees, yet I never heard anyone else from our room, even outside our door; it was very quiet. There is a cafe that serves typical 'American' breakfast fare, tho since we were not interested in a heavy breakfast and we were eager to get to the beach we never tried it. Staff was very nice, but we never needed any help or service, so I can't comment beyond that. I understand that you can get help with your bags, but I prefer handling my own luggage.

Given the mixed weather we had during our stay, we enjoyed being at the Inn to enjoy the views created mixed skies, the sounds of nature outside at night, the ability to entertain our kids in quite a nice pool once they had enough of the hot sun at the beach. I would also note the Inn has a somewhat stricter cancellation policy than chain hotels generally offer, but not deal breaker. Family friendly accommodation except the Lobby; they have some duck lures which they're quite worried about. The rate was quite reasonable given the last minute nature of the reservation. I would definitely go back.

We stayed for seven days last week at the Island Motor Inn Resort and it was a perfect time. The rooms were spacious and clean and the grounds are immaculate. I think they even pick up the bird feathers that fall from the sky. the opool was nice and the staff very friendly. The price was good also. parking was ample and the privacy of the grounds around the pool area shaded it from main Street so you did not feel like you were swimming on Main Street. We would gladly stay there again.
