1848 Island Manor House
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed May 23, 2013

We recently spent a long weekend at the 1848 Island Manor House and had a wonderful time. Our room was lovely and recently re-decorated. Ben, the Innkeeper, was delightful. He readily offered suggestions for restaurants and activities. He also made great cookies and sweet treats. We enjoyed the sitting room in the evening and meeting the other guests. Breakfast was very good each morning and very filling. So filling, we skipped lunch. We have already recommended the 1848 to friends, although it sounds as though they stay full during the season.

Had a great weekend at the Island Manor House, stayed in the Misty Mare room. Beautiful grounds, flowers and clearly the best kept B & B on the island. Enjoyed the refreshment room with fresh baked cookies and chilled beverages. The complimentary bikes were a plus and we used them to tour the island. Quiet courtyard to relax was great, and the breakfast was delicious. Recommend the Sea Star for gourmet lunch and the Island Creamery for a ice cream. The wildlife refuge is a must, great wildlife. Ben was a great host and we are looking forward to going back.

Stayed for the weekend in Joseph Kenny room. The room, house, grounds, breakfast, afternoon tea, chocolate covered strawberries, Ben (Inn Keeper) and other guests where wonderful. It was my first experience with a B&B and I have to say I will be returning. They even provided bikes for us to ride around during our stay!!!

Simply the best Island accommodation. People are friendly helpful and knowledgeable of all things local. The house is beautiful and the court yard offers the relaxing evening deserved after a day of fun in the sun. Bikes available for the ride around the town to visit all the little shops. Would recommend to all....

We stay in B & Bs quite often and this is one of the most put together, they-thought-of-everything type inn. Striving to be green, they have a whole pantry for guests to nibble on sweets or fruit, pour a cup of coffee or tea in real mugs, or leave food in the fridge.

Ben greeted us at the door, was quite hospitable showing us around and offering to make dinner reservations after insuring we new where we were on the island with regard to the beaches and ponies. A personalized note on our bed in the Nathaniel Smith room welcomed us. This room is on the second floor next to the staircase and as with all old homes, the stairs creak! We were amazed at how comfortable the king size bed was but wished we'd thought to keep the fireplace going or there was an extra blanket because it did get chilly in the room overnight.

Breakfast was gourmet at it's best. Wished we'd been on time as we missed the pastries already eaten by our table-mates. I think the strawberries with creme freche were being eyed by the sweet 5 year old sitting next to our seats! The vegetable eggs benedict were delicious as well.

Many of those who signed the guest book in our room stated they had their intimate wedding at this Inn. I can see why, it's a beautiful place.

First, this was my first experience at a B&B and it was fantastic. Our getaway weekend was such a great experience. The 1848 Island Manor House was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of the home. We felt like we were visting good friends through the hospitality of Ben and Lynn who really made us feel at home. The house is full of wonderful history that Ben filled us in on, and really wet our appetites to return in the warm weather. I can't wait to sit in the garden patio area this summer! It was also our first visit to Chincoteague and they helped us navigate our way around the island and gave us wonderful suggestions on restaurants and what to see. Although a lot of businesses were still closed for the winter, we enjoyed just being there and relaxing. They made our visit memorable so much so we are planning our next visit very soon. Look forward to more of that good home cooking!

Room Tip: Sandpiper room was very comfortable. I didn't want to get out of bed!

My husband and I stayed here last summer. It was our first time at a B and B and we absolutely loved it. I would definitely recommend this bed and breakfast. The owner was super friendly and helpful. We were the only couple staying there that weekend and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. Since there isn't much to do in Chincoteauge other than go to the beach and go out to eat, we ended up spending the evenings at the inn. We were able to truly relax. There is a sitting room with a nice tv that we took advantage of, and a beautiful courtyard/garden area to sit in.

If you want to go to the beach, this place has plenty of towels and beach equipment to take with you. They also let you borrow bikes, which I loved. We took bikes down to the trail and even biked on the beach.

The rooms were wonderful, super cozy and not too overdecorated. The only con here was that the bathroom was a little small.

Lastly, the breakfast was decent. It definitely wasn't the best I've had but still enjoyable. They even put out cookies and lemonade in the afternoon for us to enjoy.

If I come to Chincoteauge, I'd be very happy to come back to this bed and breakfast.
