I stayed here for 2 nights, Sunday - Tuesday, then week before Pony Week. It looked like the place was fully booked.
I picked the Refuge Inn since it wasn't a chain, and it is family owned.
I was happy to find that my limited-mobiity special requests were thoughtfully honored. Only thing that would make that issue better-served would be some dedicated handicapped parking spots down at the far end of the building; the 3 existing are clustered around the office at the front of the complex.
Everyone I met at the front desk, during my entire stay, were friendly, happy, and happy to speedily help!
My 2-queen bed room was absolutely delightful. It seemed like all the furnishings, as well as the carpet were new - so rare to find in a hotel! Housekeeping (also always-friendly and efficient) do hard job extremely well. My home for 2 days smelled fresh, and the was bathroom immacuate. Towels were cushy, and the linens smelled so fresh, like they were dried in the sun.My view was of the courtyard and pool, all under shady pines. I loved the bath products provided. Good lighting, excellent beds, good wifi access, and plenty of plug-in access for chargers.
My little counter-height frig was the best-working one I have ever encountered at a hotel! It kept my water, soda, and food at perfect temps. I did miss having a microwave, but the one down the hall...I stayed here for 2 nights, Sunday - Tuesday, then week before Pony Week. It looked like the place was fully booked.

My little counter-height frig was the best-working one I have ever encountered at a hotel! It kept my water, soda, and food at perfect temps. I did miss having a microwave, but the one down the hall in the vending area sufficed for small, quick reheats. I know the reasons from not having micros in the rooms include helping the local food establishments, as well as keeping the rooms from food-mess related problems, It is probably one of the reasons the rooms are so enjoyable:)
Chincoteague is a very bike-friendly town, especially if you jump off onto residential streets. It was fun learning how to duck the Maddox Road traffic by turning left on Chicken City Road, Right onto Church Street, and end up smack in the middle of downtown on Main Street. The bike racks at Refuge Inn are safe, secure, and plentiful.
I headed to the hot tub in the pool house every chance I could, after a side trip up to the front desk to check out a key. I chatted with their landscaping gardener one morning as he was taking care of the many gorgeous palms, hibiscus, and ferns decking out the pool area; another wonderful, pleasant, member of the staff! The water in the jacuzzi was a perfect temperature, and so nice after a bike ride on a warm summer morning.
I loved sitting out on my patio in the evenings. One...More
