the wife and I returned to the Refuge Inn for the 3rd time since September of last year. I happened across this place while looking for somewhere to stay for our anniversary. Since all the B&B's on the island were booked up, I found the reviews here and decided to give them a try. Best decision I made, besides the trip itself. The people at this hotel are friendly, the rooms are clean and well decorated, and there are tons of reasons to stay here. Ponies and bike rentals across the parking lot, a great diner right across the street, and walking/biking distance to both the wildlife refuge and the rest of Chincoteague. I highly recommend this hotel...I wont come to Chincoteague unless I can stay at the Refuge Inn!

Room Tip: the great thing about this hotel is that there are perks to both sides of it. Get a room on the pool side, and its quieter and shaded. Get one on the parking lot side, and you have a view of the ponies and the lighthouse.

My husband and I decided at the last minute to have a quick getaway and chose Refuge Inn on Chincoteague. What a wonderful choice. This is a family run hotel with so much going for it. The room was larger and nicer than most rooms I have seen in chain hotels. Loved the four poster bed and the Adirondack chairs outside the sliding door. The rooms have refrigerators and coffee makers, but no microwave. No problem, they have them in the foyer of each floor for guests use. Also, on the second floor landing is a door that looks like a closet and is marked with a sign that says " Observation Deck". Up an awesome spiral staircase is a deck with more Adirondack chairs and a wonderful place to spend some quiet time. Although we didn't use it, pool looked great. The people at the front desk were friendly and very helpful answering all our questions. Breakfast was very nice, scrambled eggs, cereals, yogurt...typical. But what was not typical was a wonderful homemade banana nut bread! We rented scooters from the place across the street (around $30 for 24 hours), and went exploring. Great quick trip!! Will definitely stay at Refuge Inn the next time we are in Chincoteague!!

We booked this trip on a whim and were not sure what to expect. The room was a little dated, but very clean, we had a nice view of the pony pasture, the staff was very nice, the prices very reasonable, good parking. We will be back.

This is a lovely, older hotel. The rooms have balconies/patios and each one is decorated uniquely. They have refrigerators, hair dryers, and coffee pots. There's a pool and hot tub, picnic tables and grills, breakfast room and gift shop. The staff were all exceptionally nice. While there is a breakfast bar with the basics, a staff member made waffles on one day and French toast on the other day and delivered them right to your table. They also have coffee available all day. It is very close to the Wildlife refuge, and there are ponies in the pen right next to the parking lot. It is perfect for families or couples. We will definitely return!

Had a lovely stay here, closest to the beach, ponies in their pasture just off of our balcony, nice breakfast, coffee all day, exceptional staff- met owners Donna and Jane- just great people. Didn't get to use pool or hot tub but nice. Did get to see rocket launch from their observation deck way on top. All the way around a perfect place!!
