Good things? Very clean, as said. Owners very nice and helpful. Well furnished kitchen unit. Walking distance to the Assateague causeway which is great for biking and walking.
Not so good? Two floor units have staircases that adjoin, so if you've got less than gently reared kids, you will hear them clumping up and down the steps.
The units are set up well, but they are incredibly narrow and everything is compacted into the space. The kitchen area has NO counter space whatsoever to prepare food on. The downstairs futon sofa is right next to AC unit, so if you sleep there, AC blows right on you all night. The bedrooms are barely big enough to hold the beds--my daughter had to pretty well climb over her sister's bed to get to her own!
And perhaps it's because of the lack of central AC but these units are incredibly, uncomfortably humid. I have stayed elsewhere on the Island over the last 20 years and never had such a problem sleeping--the bed was clammy and uncomfortable no matter how we set the AC unit.
This is touted as a great place for group gatherings, which can also work to your disadvantage. While we were there in August there was a family reunion group who filled the back area constantly, smoking cigarettes and dumping their ashes everywhere, including in the BBQ grill.
And in terms of that back area, it is much nicer than the front area. The front faces on the road but the back deck faces a quiet street, trees and grass. (Dumpsters are NOT that near). But the back deck is for the smokers and as an asthmatic non-smoker, it was all I could do when using the BBQ to get my food cooked and get back into the house.
We've outgrown the cottage we rented for years (2 teens) and have been looking for a place could become our new spot on Chincoteague. But I think that we are going to have to keep looking.
(I do also want to say that the Daisey Family also owns "Daisey Dockside Cruises" which are wonderful and which we highly recommend. These are good people. it's just not a good place for us.)
