“Captain Awesome!”
Review of Spider's Explorer

Spider's Explorer

Since the government shutdown caused Assateague to be closed to the public, we had to find another way to view the island. Despite the wind and choppy water we had an enjoyable time.

Captain Spider was the celebrant at our wedding on Assateague Beach. We followed this with a sunset cruise on his boat and it was wonderful. Spider provided the history of the island and the area. He found dolphins, Bald Eagles, ponies and lots of other wild-life. Our photos came out great and we had a wonderful memorable time.

My husband, two daughters and I visited Chincoteague Island for the first time in July during the 2013 Pony Penning Week. The entire week was one of our most memorable travel experiences. Topping it off was boat ride with Spider's Explorer. We planned in advance to reserve a spot on Spider's Explorer to watch the ponies swim back to Assateague. Captain Spider skillfully positioned us close to the pony swim channel so that we had a terrific view. He also provided a tour around the island. The captain was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. We were very pleased with our boat tour.

Our Bed and Breakfast recommended Spider's Explorer as the best way to tour the waterways around Chincoteague and to do so with a small group and a personalized experience. We are very happy we took the advice as we had a wonderful time with Captain Spider. He is very approachable and makes you feel very comfortable on his pontoon boat. He keeps his passengers numbers low, no more that six, so there is plenty of space for everyone to spread out and get individualized attention and conversation. Captain Spider is very knowledgeable of the area and gives much attention to detail. We were graced by dolphins (which Captain Spider gladly lingered with) and saw many of the wild ponies. Very pleased with this excursion and highly recommend!

We used Spider Tours on the recommendation of a friend. I booked my reservation in the morning for our sunset cruise and we met Capt. Spider at the dock. He keeps capacity at six and gives lots of personal attention. The pontoon boat was in great condition and he had binoculars for all to share. The capt knew lots of facts and lore about the islands and was quite entertaining.
Overall a fun experience.
