“Fun time kayaking”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

Took a morning kayak tour with a new guide (only a few weeks on the job), but he was able to answer 99% of our questions. We didn't see any ponies, but there is no guarantee, since they are wild (or feral to be correct). Don't worry about having to paddle the entire time because you do stop off at a beach to get out and walk around.

“Great Kayaking”
Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

we enjoyed a family kayaking adventure. We rented 2 tandem kayaks and spent half a day on the water. We saw the ponies, bald eagles, turtles and more. we didn't go for the guided tourand liked the flexibility of going ourselves. be sure notto go too far out, we got tired at the end of the day. Don't worry about getting wet, we brought a camera, no problem and we should have packed a picnic lunch.

“Great time on the water beating the heat wave in July”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

We actually booked a mid-day cruise after staying at the National campground during 111 heat index. What a nice way to keep cool, especially if you have elderly and a small child as we did. We saw an eagle and other birds, dolphins, wild ponies, people crabing, and kayaking. The boat is covered and keeps you shaded during the heat of the day. A nice breeze on the water and the captain and mate were full of knowledge on the area, and wildlife. There was like a deluxe camping toilet on board and it was clean and not foul smelling. I guess some may consider it a mid range priced activity, but I would have paid ten times that with the heat we were facing on our planned trip. We were even running 20 mins late and they waited. We did not realize it was an hour from the camping area. We will be back next year and kayak.

“Kayak rental only (no guide, no tour)”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

Rented a single sweater for my 13-year-old and a double for me and my 12-year-old. Being inexperienced, we didn't get far or use up a half day, but it was nice being out on the water and getting some exercise, too. Saw lots of birds, but never got near any possibility of seeing ponies. Would love to go back and do it again without the youngsters; see if I can get further. But a nice first time oceany kayaking experience 15 years after my only river kayaking experience.

Langdon, the employee at the dock, was friendly and adamant about giving us instruction and tweaking our form. Gave us good, basic tips. I'm only marginally sore the day after. :) He also insisted everyone wear sunscreen. They can even give you some from bottles that others have left behind. (We had our own, but the folks who trained with us needed some.)

Probably expensive, but it's vacation. Live a little.

“Nature is no guarantee”
Reviewed August 21, 2012

For all those who gave 1 star because they didn't see ponies need to realize these animals are wild and not paid employees that show up. For us we were fortunate enough to see two herds of ponies, 2 bald eagles and lots of other birds. The capt and his helper were full of knowledge and helped point things out to the little kids. Afterwards we went to the park and saw another larger herd of ponies in the marsh on the way to the beach.
