“Great for nature lovers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2014 via mobile

They have so many animals here. Ponies, vultures, and fox squirrels are just a few. They have many birds such as egrets and herons. The beach is really nice. If you love nature you will love it here.

“Natural Gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2014

I love the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. The beach is beautiful and natural...no condos here! The 4th of July weekend was very busy, the traffic not so fun. But by riding my bicycle over from Chincoteague to Asseteague...I avoided waiting to park. Once on the Refuge, follow the biker/ hiker trails over towards the beach. It is much quieter on the hiker/biker beach, than at Tom's Cove...but each beach has it's charm.
I loved seeing all the families with little children. This is a great family beach.

“Day at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2014 via mobile

It was a family outing with four adults and two children 9 and 12. Visitors Center was very informative both children and adults enjoyed it. Many paved bike trails, easy riding. Wonderful beaches interesting wildlife including the wild ponies. In warm weather apply bug spray. Beyond the visitor center limited restroom facilities. Compared to Ocean City near by, beach is quiet and traffic lite. Overall everyone had a pleasant day.

“Commerical Free Beach and Wild Ponies”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2014

The beach was really nice and peaceful. The beach has no boardwalk but also has no vendors or tourist traps of games, rides, etc which makes it different. The weekly pass was also a great bargain so can go several days and in and out as much as please.

Ponies -
The ponies are gated in on this side of the island. There is a look out point on one of the trails that you might be able to see the ponies. The Park Ranger said that during the summer months they usually stay on the beach area on the other side where it is cooler weather. We saw a couple of ponies later in the day on the overlook. But took a boat tour where we saw about 50 ponies very close. Also we went to the other side near Ocean City Maryland and saw about six horses on the beach within an hour.
