We rented bikes and spent half the day riding around, taking pictures and seeing the wildlife. We went early and found that cars were not allowed in until after 3:00pm so it was really nice not worrying about traffic. The beach was amazing, seashells to be found everywhere. I believe anyone at any age would love this experience. I would definitely recommend going on bikes, but remember to get a lock, some paths didn't allow bikes, but they had racks to lock your bike to, so you can walk and then return and continue biking.

Nature at it's best , ever changing , stronger than we . We only go in late October ( For the last 10 years ) to avoid all the crowds in summer . It's a great place for birding , but we go for the relaxation . ( All the way from northern N.J.)

Went over to the island for a day trip. Beautiful area. Unfortunately only saw the ponies from a distance but had a very nice walk along the woodland trail and was able to take some amazing photos of the bird life out in the open areas and by the water. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The Bateman visitor center is worth the trip! We have enjoyed the exhibits many times and learned a lot about conservation, the history of the refuge, and what birds and bugs we find in the area. Always bike the refuge loop...well worth it.

What a wonderful place for children to explore and learn. We loved the life sized Eagle nest and eagle cam. Park in the lot and bike around the area exploring the lighthouse and various trails. Its our favorite place to go with family! Trails are wide and nice enough for sm children on training wheels.
