“Paris Bistro”
Reviewed October 16, 2009

My wife and I may hold the record for most meals here. We know the menu well and have tried most things. The entire staff have uniformly been more than "friendly", they've been friends - Michael is an amazing enophile and loves to share his knowledge and let us taste/choose our wine. The standards like duck confit with frits are transcendant - these are moments that take me to Paris. We frequent the Sunday Brunch and the egg dishes are easily the best in town. Can't comment on dessert as my wife won't let me have it.

“"Pffft" on Petit Pois!”
Reviewed July 4, 2009

The rudest waitstaff in C-Ville and maybe the world! Saw a standard-size available outdoor table and asked the waiter if we could sit there. He told us that there were already people waiting for it. Fine, no problem. We asked if there was a line or a list that we could add our names to. He very abruptly and rudely dismissed us and gave us an eye-roll like we were troublesome. We stood off to the side and out of the way for awhile, in somewhat of an attempt to make a line of those waiting for outdoor dining. Another couple walks up and asks us if we in line waiting for a table. We said yes. The rude one returns and asked them if they wanted to sit at a high, small bar-stool type table against the wall and indicated snootily to them that it wasn't good enough for us. We said nothing, although his comment was clearly insulting in tone towards us, and we remained waiting patiently. Another waitstaff person asked if she could help us, we said we'd like an outdoor table. The rude one then blasts by her and makes some off-hand and snotty comment about how he tried to seat us, flipped his hand at us and indicated he wasn't going to waste his time on us since we didn't want to sit at the high barstool table. She immediately adopts his rude attitude and asks us for a phone number. I ask why she wants a phone number and she says, it's going to be quite a long time before a table is ready for you, you can leave and we'll call when one is available. Needless to say, we did not leave, did not give her our phone number nor did we dine at Peit Pois. Nor will we ever dine there on any future visit to C-Ville. Nor will we recommend it to friends. I find it incredible that two PEOPLE were treated so shabbily by this waitstaff for doing nothing "wrong" except asking if they could wait their fair turn for a table. To add additional insult to the injury was the fact that we were old enough to be their parents - I wonder how they'd like it if someone publicly embarrased their folks that way? Maybe for an encore they can kick out the canes of grandparently types. If you are of a certain age and want to be treated with dignity and courtesy, you won't find it here.

“Simple excellence”
Reviewed May 30, 2008

With a streamlined menu and polite, professional service, Petit Pois is a treat in the middle of Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. French classics at a reasonable price with an interesting wine menu - the inside is a little small, but dining outside is a joy. Recommended.

I always have a good time here. Tasty food, nice service, not as expensive as Fleurie. Menu is limited, but not in such a way as it keeps you from being able to eat something tasty. More in the "we don't need to be foolish and offer 30 items, you will love what we have."
