Have been here twice; lots of fun, a great place to visit. Pick your own apples and pumpkins, buy tasty apples and apple products, plus gift items. What a nice fall activity!

If you are looking for a mountaintop view, Carter Orchard definitely has one! We recently visited here on a day when weather was such a factor that by the time we got to the top, fog was rolling in along with a blustery wind! We thought we were going to pick apples but due to the weather, opted to buy ones that they had picked earlier. The views though were breathtaking and we enjoyed those before the fog made it difficult to see after awhile. The apple cider donuts are awesome - they brought us hot ones from the bakery. Mmmm. The drive up the gravel road was a bit scary in our little Honda civic but we made it just fine. Will definitely return next fall when we come to the mountains and hopefully the weather will be a bit more cooperative!

The drive up the mountain was on a gravel road, not pleasant, but we had no difficulty in our Nissan Maxima.

The views at the top are fantastic.

We were lazy and bought apples already picked but definitely worth the trip for the apple cider donuts and the wine shop. $3 for a tasting of either 8-10 sweet wines or same number non-sweet wines. I chose the sweet wines (not my usual faves) as I was curious about the peach and blackberry wines - I was NOT disappointed! Excellent sipping wines - can totally imagine drinking this Rapidan River peach wine in the spring/summer but their blackberry wine and the Prince Michel port will be good during the winter.

I went to Carter Mountain with my son, sister and friend. We had such a great time! From driving up the windy dirt road, to hiking up the hill to pick the apples, and smelling the apple cider doughnuts as we prepared for departure! The place was busy but the staff was very attentive and helpful.

I recommend going early to avoid crowds and to grab on of the wagons sitting around for us to tug the kids, articles of clothing and of course the Apple! The Fuji's were worth the hike!

Man, that drive took FOREVER. It happened to be super foggy the morning we drove up or we might have appreciated the scenery a little more :)
We did enjoy our visit thoroughly though, picking up some apple cider and three varieties of apples. I've heard they have some wonderful music on Thursday nights so we're excited to check that out in the future!
