We decided to go to Charlottesville even though Mother Nature had dumped over a foot of snow there two days before our visit. We thought traveling would be difficult, but the roads from DC were clear and the vineyards were open, what luck for us! Blenheim is set in a beautiful location, the view for the back deck is gorgeous. You can spend an afternoon there just enjoying the views. The great thing about Blenheim is that while you enjoy the view, you can enjoy some good wine as well. Between Blenheim, Trump, and Jefferson, you get a a great sampling of Virginia wine. The staff at Blenheim were friendly and laid back. I look forward to visiting again when the weather warms up.

Wine pourers were knowledgeable, and did not rush us through. Good wines, and they do ship to many states. Be sure to check if they ship to your state. I did not purchase any bottles while there, as I was flying and not checking luggage, but I did order online when I got home. Shipping was fast.

I spent a couple of bottles of wine between friends' worth of time out on the deck of the tasting room on a December weekend, eating cheese and finger foods, while taking in the breathtaking scenery. This place is a wonderful, relaxing getaway that is well worth a visit.

Spoke with the winemaker for a bit, and brought home a few bottles of 2011 Painted White. It's a good wine to pair with almost anything. Highly recommended.

Yes, this is Dave Matthews' winery but Blenheim does not make a big deal of the connection and neither should you. That's like asking if Ben & Jerry are there when you go for ice cream.

This winery has a small to medium sized tasting room as far as Charlottesville-area wineries go, a lovely rustic building set into a hillside with a glassed over area looking over the actual winemaking area and two tasting bars in the back.

Standing at the bars you look out a wall of windows overlooking the hill and vineyards sloping away. There are a few tables inside and several more outside on a deck.

Your $5 tasting fee currently gets you only five wines to taste, of middling but acceptable quality. The wines are not 100% estate grown but the grapes are all purchased within 35 miles.

As is the case at most Charlottesville wineries on weekends and peak times they staff the tasting room with part-timers, so the quality and knowledge of the staff varies. Pours are generous so pace yourself.

The glassware is of surprisingly good quality -- it's yours to keep and if you want you can bring it back cleaned for a free tasting, and I can attest that they are dishwasher safe and good everyday wine glasses.

There is a small espresso bar at the cashier and a selection of packaged cheeses and meats for sale, but no prepared foods. This winery is very convenient to others including Trump so it's easy to include on a tasting tour.

This was our first visit to the Charlottesville wineries. A friend recommended Blenheim, and we were pleasantly surprised! The staff was super friendly and couldn't do enough for us. We weren't expecting too much from Virginia wines, but Blenheim seems to have found the right touch. Very nice grounds and perfect for an afternoon snack. Feel free to bring your own cheeses, and enjoy the day.
