Having passed this by on previous trips to Charlottesville, I was surprised when the period costumed hostess not only provided a generous pour of tasting wines, but was amazingly well informed. She handled the varied visitors with courtesy, wit and aplomb. The offerings of the chock a block gift shop were not horrible and priced within reason. Interior features a transplanted (non-working) watermill works.

It was fun to see how people used to live and dine and party. The backyard is definitely worth a look too. Quick place to stop and look within a half hour or so. It's near Monticello and vineyards.

The food is served buffet style for the first plate. After that, the server brings drinks, dessert and seconds. Our server was attentive and kept us with all we wanted.

An historic landmark with restaurant serving award winning fried chicken. Forget the diet , just enjoy this for one day of "diet freedom!"
The historic tour is a must. You will appreciate what travelers had available... and HAD to share.

Very fun - casual buffet in a colonial atmosphere. The food was surprisingly great - especially the fried chicken. It's not elegant or relaxing, but it's fun and convivial
