“Where fried chicken lovers go to heaven!”
Reviewed January 19, 2013

I cannot say enough about this awesome establishment. Yes, it is pricey, that's true, but if you want the best fried chicken in town, this is where to go. It's buffet-style at first, with a limited, but delicious menu. Once you're seated, a waiter/waitress brings you anything additional you need. The stewed tomatoes are melt-in-your-mouth goodness, and the biscuits will send you into ecstasy! Plus, the rustic charm puts you in the historical mood if you are headed to Monticello or Ashlawn-Highland. If you are up for a little hiking, the Saunders trail is nearby and provides a lovely after-over-indulging recreation. Do not miss this!!

“Worth a look”
Reviewed January 17, 2013

We toured Michie Tavern on our way home from a stay at The Boar's Head Inn. The tour is self-guided but you listen to recordings in each room. It was well done, an interesting look at 18th century tavern life.

“Atmospheric old tavern with style”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We had lunch. One price for buffet in 18th century log tavern. It was all good, fried chicken, potatoes/gravy, pickled beets, rolls, cole slaw, stewed tomatoes and hot apple cider. You may have seconds and they'll serve you. You're also paying for the old charm atmosphere and it is not cheap. I was a bit surprised, but it was a good experience and food. Two gift shops have large array of items. But not a VA state magnet to fit with our other states.

“Touristy but tasty”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

This place exists to feed the droves of tourists coming down from Monticello hungry. It's quintessentially touristy, replete with costumed serving people and a gift shop, as well as a tour of the original tavern building, which dates from the 18th century. The tavern was actually relocated from elsewhere. The food is served buffet style, and it's all you can eat. The pork BBQ is so-so, but the fried chicken is superb. The veggies are very cooked, Southern style, and the peach cobbler is worth the extra calories.
