They are conveninetly located just down the road from Jefferson Vineyards. After a day of Monticello and the Vineyards we stopped in for a sandwich. Delicous! Would absolutley stop again.

I actually found this place on TripAdvisor after driving past it. I didn't know what to make of the place at first because I am a burger and fries kinda guy and I wasn't really sure what an "artisan market" was. We tried the specials at the time (one was a plum BLT and another was a local sausage with something or other) - both were PHENOMENAL and incredibly fresh! Witty banter with the employees who were very knowledgeable. One said to me we have a small menu because we "own" what we do. Those words proved incredibly true. If you are touring Monticello, the vineyards nearby, or Ash Lawn, this is a most stop. My only "compliant"(if you can even call it that) would be the sandwiches were a little on the small side. But this is easily solved by checking out the homemade baked goods ... you won't leave hungry!

Stopped here on our way from Monticello to Ash Lawn Highland and were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food in this quaint, little place. The owner is great and very informative and the menu features something for everyone. Our sandwiches were delicious and refreshing, not the usual fare, and prices were good. Obvious care and thought given to the food. The owner is to be commended. Definitely a place to stop, even if just for one of her peanut butter and jelly cookies!

We live in Richmond, but whenever we are anywhere near Charlottesville, we plan our day around lunch at Salt. On Thursday we took some out-of-town guests to Monticello, then stopped at Salt for the charcuterie and a baguette. We went to Jefferson Vineyards for a picnic - the food was just perfect. Everything I have ever had here is wonderful.

At first glance, you might think this is just any other Southern general store. That impression couldn't be farther from the mark. The service was great, the sandwiches were amazing. And priced correctly, which is rare for a gourmet eatery.
