We arrived for an early reservation (had two young children with us). Sat in the patio and received friendly, professional service. The appetizers were good. Main courses were equally pleasant, desserts delicious. Very extensive and reasonably priced wine list. All in all a delightful evening.

The Ivy Inn was an overall disappointing experience.

My girlfriend and I made reservations, arrived on time, and were promptly seated. Our waiter came to our table quickly and took our drink orders. 15 minutes later he showed up again with our drinks, apologized for the wait and said the drinks were on the house. We had not realized it had been so long, and brushed it off as no big deal. The drinks were absolutely delicious, but that little hiccup in service was a sign of things to come.

We placed our meal order consisting of a starter, salad and an entree for each of us, and a bottle of wine to share. The wine was selected per our waiters recommendation and he did not disappoint in that aspect. After our order was placed, we somehow lost the attention of our waiter. Our starters came out (not delivered by our waiter, which is fine) and were extremely good. Our salads should have come next as well, but as we waited and waited, there was nothing.

Eventually our entrees came out, and again the food was excellent, but besides a quick check-in the waiter ignored us. The other tables around us received normal attention, refilling drinks, etc. At restaurants of this caliber and price I am used to waiters taking care of you, especially when it comes to the wine level in your glass. However, as he barely made eye contact as he passed our table on the way to others, he never noticed our wine levels and never offered to top us off. We did not even have an opportunity to mention the missing salads until the waiter came to get our dessert order.

Again, the desserts were delicious and were compliments of the house. Having our drinks and desserts being comped was a gracious gesture, it's too bad the service made that become a necessary gesture. I left with a bad taste in my mouth.

First, great ambiance both outside and in. Tastefully decorated. We were seated promptly, and the server gave us our menus immediately and asked for any drink orders. We were also served appetizers and bread within minutes of being seated. For starters both of us had she-crab soup - among the best we've ever had! For entrees, one of us chose scallops which were large, tender and tasty. The other had the trout - succulent, properly seasoned and very tender. Both dishes are accompanied with vegetables and artfully arranged. For dessert we both had key lime pie, presented as a crumb covered pyramid, instead of the typical "pie slice" presentation. The service throughout was impeccable! The room we were in was quiet so we could really have a conversation and the tables were not jammed together. All in all, a very delightful dinner and evening. Next time we may eat outdoor on their lovely patio - too warm on the day we were there for that!

We arrived at the Ivy inn and were told our table was not quite ready and would we have a complimentary glass of champagne while we waited. The food was absolutely delicious and we chose a bottle of the local wine which was lovely . I would have no qualms about recommending for a celebratory meal

We went to Cville from DC to celebrate our first anniversary since we couldn't get away. We chose to have our anniversary dinner at the ivy Inn, and it was a great choice (They knew it was our anniversary). They gave us a complimentary glass of champagne to kick off our dinner and had special menus drawn up that we could take with us. Our food was outstanding (and I'm picky) from salads to dessert. The décor is a little antique-y, so good if that's what you like. I would definitely return and recommend to anyone.
