“Convenient . . .”
Reviewed July 14, 2014

This restaurant is located within easy walking distance of the English Inn. Our service was excellent, and the crab cake sandwich was delicious.

“Cold, cold, cold”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

We have been before and enjoyed it. Tonight was not good at all. We waited 45 minutes for our food and they were not busy enough to warrant that. When I got my food the barbeque was cold and had clearly been sitting out. The onion rings were very cold and chewy. Very disappointing.

“Much more than a Bar”
Reviewed December 14, 2013

I came here with two classmates from Fishburne Military School and their wives after the funeral of an instructor from the school we'd all had over 50 years ago. We had not planned on going to this place as one said "It's only a bar." That turned out to be one of the greater untruths of the years. We turned out to think alike and all chose the 1/2 sandwich and soup, the day being cold and snowy/rainy. Our only difference was the choice of sandwich, as we all took the French Onion, which was an excellent choice, with lots of obviously slow cooked onions, good broth, and thick cheese over the croutons. One glance at my chicken salad sandwich showed me that the chicken salad was not store bought and there was twice as much as the bread could hold. In fact, I managed to spill some on my sweater, pants, and shoe and still had as much as I wanted to eat! The waiter was friendly and efficient despite being at the receiving end of three 70 year olds who have known each other since they were 13/14 and had spent four years in a military school together.
Well worth the visit.

“A 2 Rating is Generous”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

Not sure what is worse: Watching UVA football or eating here for dinner. There is no one to seat you when you arrive. The management is terrible, hiring overworked UVA kids as waiters while the managers hang out in the kitchen and talk loudly. The food is okay, average is the bedtime adjective.

“family owned, no pretense”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

ii've been here often. it's a little bit like stepping back to a simpler time. The staff is friendly, prices are very reasonable, and the food abundant and good w/no pretension. The antithesis of your chain restaurant. Great for a family night out or pop in for something to eat @ the bar and catch the game. and yes, the mozarella stix are world class!
