We chose Hamiltons based on the website menu and TA ratings. It turned out to be even better than imagined. We sat at the bar - great cocktails- got into a conversation with the bartender who turned out to be an owner. The chef is new, about 4months or so, but he has some creative combinations and the owners have a real commitment to local and sustainable farms. We had the scallop appetizer with orange marmalade, jalapeños and avocado which was outstanding. The flavor combination was quite original. The house salad was very fresh greens with a tasty balsamic dressing - hon had the Caesar which was also quite tasty. We shared the chicken main entree. Pimento risotto was awesome, the chicken was obviously of a better quality than you normally encounter. Good selection of wines with some local vineyards that are outstanding. Wish we had had room for dessert! Would most definitely come back..thanks,Greg.

I like to dine outside on the Downtown Mall. With the chef's permission, I order filet mignon off the dinner menu. We have to negotiate on the sides because dinner menu items are not available at lunch. Service is friendly and attentive. Food is very good.

We went here for our anniversary and had a really lovely meal. The cocktails were delicious and I chose the special entree (pork) which was excellent. My husband is a vegetarian and I was a bit surprised there were not more creative options for him, although they were accomodating. Service, as others have said, was really great. It is a good special occasion place.

We chose Hamilton's for an anniversary dinner. Decided to go on Saturday so we could hear the jazz combo which was to start playing at 7, so we made reservations for 6:30. The decor is quite nice, and the tables were nicely set. The service was good, attentive enough without being over the top. The menu has interesting offerings, and the food was delicious. We shared an appetizer of ricotta and pea stuffed ravioli in pesto and dh had the chicken and I had the halibut. Both very good! Dessert offerings were good, we shared chocolate 5 ways. The only downside was that it was quite loud, and with the tables being close together it was difficult to have a conversation without sharing it with others around you. And the jazz combo didn't start until about 7:30 though they had begun warming up just about 7. So, not sure if we would return or not. With prices that are more of a special occasion place for us... we would like to be able to talk to each other. Perhaps lunch would be a better choice for us?

My BF and I are finishing a two month assignment in Charlottesville. We have eaten out here many, many times and Hamilton's is definitely the standard bearer. Their cocktails are spot on, the food is very good without being fussy, and the service is truly impeccable. The prices keep this place from being a regular stop, but it is absolutely worth the splurge.
