“Total Relaxation”
Reviewed September 3, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

Our stay at Sunnybank was incredible. Anne was the perfect host. The cottage and grounds were a perfect setting for a relaxing weekend. I spent many hours poolside just enjoying the peace and quiet. Don't miss the live music on Saturday nights at the Batesville Market. It was a blast!

We were delighted you had such a good time--you really seemed to enjoy all we have to offer, from relaxing by the pool to exploring the property to checking out the local talent across the creek--it was a pleasure to have you both here--we look forward to your return!

“Simply serene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed July 2, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

My husband and I just returned from the Cottage at Sunny bank. We were there to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. No words can describe this place ... it is simply serene!!!!!!!

The cottage exudes total peace and relaxation. While reading outside you can hear the babbling of the stream. There is no t.v. to distract you.

The cottage is immaculate. The in-ground pool is wonderful. The views/grounds are beautiful!

Anne, the owner, will make your visit perfect in all aspects! Every detail of our stay was carefully considered by Anne. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her restaurant reviews in an area dining guide that she put together.

We visited Monticello (previously planned) and Ashlawn-Highland (unplanned but recommended by Anne) ... both were awesome tours. So glad for the recommendation to tour Ashlawn, it was such a quaint and intimate tour.

I hope that we are lucky enough to return to the Cottage at Sunnybank in the near future. It was simply serene!

Liked best: the serenity of the entire visit!
Liked least: I loved the bathtub, my husband prefers a shower (he made do with the hand held shower head).

“Fantastic”
Reviewed June 30, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Finding words to describe how wonderful our stay was is very hard . From the moment we met Anne and Jim and their lovely dog Joe we knew we had made the best decision ever !! We had a lovely welcome and once Anne showed us around the gorgeous cottage , so clean , fresh and tastefully decorated , we were then asked if we would like a drink to refresh us by the fantastic swimming pool, overlooking the most breathtaking views of the rolling countryside , what a Gem of a place to relax .
In the evening Anne had made us lovely home baked treats , which we enjoyed with a bottle of complimentary wine and a cheese platter , how amazing , we've never stayed anywhere as friendly with such wonderful personal touches .
Lastly breakfast again was wonderful .
All I can say on behalf of my husband and I is that we had the best experience ever , and came away with new lovely friends in Anne, Jim and not forgetting Joe . Thank you !!! Plan to return frequently .

“Serene and peaceful with personal touches!”

My husband and I came to the Cottage at Sunnybank for a week away to tour Virginia wine country, the University of Virginia and Monticello. The cottage was exactly what we needed to get away from the busyness of city life! It was close enough to Charlottesville and local attractions to be convenient, but it felt like our own little secluded retreat. Anne was a wonderful hostess, and we so appreciated the personal touches, like flowers, wine & cheese, and fresh fruit. We felt so well-taken care of and rested when we left.

“The perfect escape!”

The Cottage at Sunnybank is an ideal getaway. The property itself is spectacular - subtly decorated, physically beautiful, quiet - and provides everything one needs for a relaxing stay. We particularly enjoyed eating outdoors next to the pool and walking around the many acres of fields and woods (and over the stream thanks to the custom bridges!). When it was time to retire for the night, the bed was comfortable and everything else was setup perfectly.

The manager, Anne, was the perfect balance - welcoming and actively engaged but also sure to provide space and the feeling that we really were in our own home. She provided good recommendations for where to eat and what to do. Breakfasts were customized to our tastes and two bottles of craft local beer were provided every night. She even left bedtime sweets for us each night!

All in all, I could not recommend this place more highly. If you want a break from work, make the trip to Cottage at Sunnybank! It is certainly a unique and wonderful destination.

“An oasis of calm, peace & nature. A gem.”
Reviewed April 29, 2015 for a stay in April 2015

We stayed for 3 nights at Jim & Anne's charming & delightful rural B&B. Beautifully appointed & decorated it was ideal in the midst of our busy busy touring schedule. Set in 26 acres, including walks down to the riverside (with bench for picnic) & across the bridges into the valley, we looked forward to returning each evening. The accommodation has its own entrance with a small area for fridge etc, door to the bedroom & a separate bathroom with a claw bath overlooking the back garden area. There is also your own private veranda ... ideal for that glass of wine into the evening and a swimming pool for the summer months. There are lots of thoughtful touches & our hosts were friendly, helpful & welcoming ......... all in all thoroughly recommended for those who like warm hospitality, a great nights sleep without hearing traffic noise or all movement from hotel rooms with thin walls. And of course breakfast is provided........

Thank you for your lovely review, Yvonne. I'm delighted to be able to tell you that we now have Square, which means I can invoice guests directly and they may pay by credit card. Alas, due to our rural location our WiFi can be spotty--we have been promise an area upgrade in the fall--fingers crossed!
