“The BEST!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2014

If in Charlottesville, don't miss this authentic Mexican Restaurant. They just renovated and added more seating. But get there early because all walks fill the joint. from suits to order takers, this place has got it going on!

“very authentic and tasty”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

I have eaten La Michoacana many times--always take out because they have very little seating and the ambiance is less than to be desired--although I have heard they are re-modeling. The food is so good--delicious spices, homemade tortillas, homemade sauces and salsas. The guacamole is very thin. The prices have gone up a couple of times since I started going there but not unreasonably so. They only take cash so forget the credit cards or check book. The empanadas are delicious as are the tacos and burritos. The man who owns the place is also the cashier and is not the most friendly person in town, but he is never rude or obnoxious. The place also sells stuff like Mexican sodas, guayaberras, spices, kitschy religious statuettes, rosary beads, spices and Mexican candy. It is an odd place but has delicious food.

“Spectacular Mexican”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

This is absolutely great Mexican food as good as any restaurant we've been to in Arizona and New Mexico and Texas and traveling in the Yucatan. My Mexican gourmet friend says it might be the best Mexican restaurant he's ever been to. Make no mistake this is a tiny hole-in-the-wall mainly for take-out with two small counters and a couple of picnic tables outside. You order at the counter. All the dishes I've had are boldly original in execution and generously presented. Spectacular cooking -- downhome, but from the home of a true artist. Their vegetarian tamales are fabulous, as are the veggie gorditas, and cheese enchiladas. Beans and sides are all great. And, perhaps best of all, on the counter they have big tubs of pico de gallo, red and green salsas, and a guacamole sauce (!) that is to die for.

“Nasty service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

Tonight was my second and last time I will go to this restaurant. The food is very good, but the people that wait on you are nasty. I ordered flautas which come with rice and beans. This is the same thing I ordered a month ago and it was very good. I think it is too pricey at $9, but I was willing to pay that.
I asked that my beans be put in a separate container so they would not run into all the other food. At first they said OK, then they said it would cost extra because "We have to pay for the containers." I was a bit taken aback but said, "It will cost what, 50 cents?" They wanted THREE DOLLARS. Now I agree they pay for their styrofoam containers, but in NO WAY do they cost $3' They were very condescending and said THIS TIME they would do it, but they want to serve the flautas ON the beans "Like they do in Mexico." . I said, "You know, this is the United States and we don't like our food all slopped together." They said "This is MEXICAN, and we will serve it in one container with the flautas on the beans."
Last time I will go there, no matter how good the food is. Big talk from a restaurant that deals in cash only.

“Reasonably priced, excellent food.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

La Michoacana is a small place with minimal seating, known for their tacos. But, don't just stop there on the menu. I have had other cutomers at the restaurant suggest the empanadas which turned out to be great and the tostadas which are exceptonal. The prices are reasonable and the food portions large. The tacos, made on premises are just one reason to visit but other foods keep you coming back.
