This was a first time experience dining at a Jason's deli for us and we were very satisfied with our meals. Great menu selection and the food was delicious. The staff was very friendly and eager to answer any questions we might have had. Service was very quick, presentation was above average, and employees were quick to remove empty dishes. We were thanked by staff as we exited the establishment. Would definitely return.

First time visit to Jason's Deli. It's located in the old Ragazzi's Restaurant across the street from the Fashion Square mall on 29N, which I guess is the reason why they were crowded. Service was reasonably fast even though they were crowded. Food was OK, not great. Jason's Deli is like a low-end McAlister's Deli. You order your sandwich and drinks and pay for your food at the counter, and then they give you a number. Food is brought to your table. Drinks are self-serve fountain drinks with unlimited refills. I had 1/2 club sandwich and vegetable beef soup combo which was OK. Emily had salad bar with some kind of pumpkin soup that was terrible - tasted like they burned it. Lunch came with free ice cream cone from self-serve smooth ice cream machine which would be a nice treat for young children.

If you're looking for a good sandwich on 29N, drive just a few blocks further north and go to Carving Board Cafe in Albemarle Square mall instead. Or if you prefer a restaurant chain, try Panera Bread at either Barracks Road mall or at Hollymead Town Center mall.

Why do they call this a deli? It is not a deli. This place makes sandwiches. It's a sandwich place. They have no respect for deli. What they do to corned beef should be a crime. If you're looking for a sandwich and you don't want to make it all the way to Barracks to get to Panera, fine. Go here. But it's not a deli.

Tried Jason's Deli for the first time since it opened, and really enjoyed our lunch. We got there a bit before noon, so we beat the rush - good thing, because it filled up quickly. One orders at a counter upon entering, moves down the line to pay and get a number and then the food is brought to your table (promptly). If you aren't familiar with the menu, be prepared to hang back a bit and read it, rather than being rushed into a decision.

I had the Reuben, which was one of the best ones I'd had recently, although there wasn't enough dressing on it (it didn't run down my chin and on to my shirt). But the corned beef was piled high and the sauerkraut wasn't wimpy or skimpy. Our daughter had the salad bar, which has an excellent array of selections and which she enjoyed very much. Husband had a ham and cheese (there are a variety of cheeses from which to choose) and again, the meat was piled high and the bread was very tasty.

And oh, joy, there is free soft-serve ice cream at the end of the meal (or the beginning, for that matter). There is a selection of toppings and it's a really nice little treat.

Jason's is a very nice addition to the Charlottesville scene.
