“Another fantastic weekend at the farm”

This was our second stay at Anna Valley Farm, and had another wonderful, relaxing weekend. The house was again spotlessly clean, and sooo comfortable. We enjoyed watching and interacting with horses, and going for walks in the open fields. We truly did not want to leave. Anna Valley just feels like home in a matter of minutes after arrival. Looking forward to our next stay!

“Nice Place to Get Away with Pets!”
Reviewed September 27, 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This place was a great place to get away with our dogs. They have a fenced in yard that makes it very convenient. The owners were very nice! The horses on property were not the least bit scared of the dogs and they were beautiful and well taken care of. The property was clean. Do not expect a luxury, high end cabin. It's an average looking farmhouse, but that's all we needed. Satellite TV is a bonus. There's not much to do near by. Don't let the Charlottesville title fool you. It's close to half hour drive to get to Charlottesville. The closest town is about 15 minutes away. There's a grill on the back deck if you want to do some grilling. I do wish there were cushions on the deck chairs, because the hard metal was very uncomfortable and they were the only chairs to sit on out back. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway, this is perfect for you.

“Nice place near Monticello”
Reviewed September 21, 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My wife, parents, and I stayed in the log house during a recent visit to Charlottesville and Monticello. The house was conveniently located a short drive to Monticello. For two, the house would be perfect. For four, it worked great. It is in a pleasant, serene location on a horse farm, and has a lot of amenities. For our return to DC it was short drive for a side trip to Richmond. I highly recommend the experience.

Thanks for your review William and glad you enjoyed your stay!I'm going to be replacing the queen size sofa bed in the second bedroom with a queen size bed, dressers, etc., so if you come again it'll be a regular bedroom.

“Wonderful stay”

My family stayed at Ana Valley for a month between assignments and had a wonderful time. Jogging on the large property boundaries, enjoying the horses, and meeting the caretakers was very memorable. With Charlottesville and other historical locations so near you can’t go wrong.

The house itself is very comfortable. Full kitchen, large living room, washer and dryer made it idea for a long term stay. Grilling on the back porch and just enjoying the country charm was wonderful.

“Clean, quiet and comfortable, exactly as described.”
Reviewed October 2, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We were made to feel at home from virtually the minute we arrived. We were greeted by Amanda within a couple minutes of arrival, and she was available to answer any questions we had, any time we had them. The house was absolutely spotless, inside and out, everything worked, the furniture was comfortable, and the all the furnishings homey. We didn't want to leave!

“Stole my deposit”
Reviewed July 16, 2014 for a stay in July 2013

The "quaint country cabin" is a little too rustic for most families with small children but the real problem is with the owner. The wifi was provided with a cheap little hotspot and there was a daily data use limit and the owner accused us of streaming movies (which we never did) and used that and a clogged toilet (which was not clogged when we left) as a trumped-up basis for keeping our deposit.

There are so many wonderful places to stay in and around Charlottesville. They might cost a little more but it's worth it not to be in the middle of nowhere at the mercy of a lousy landlord.

After his departure, the guest sent me an email stating: “We had a great stay and thoroughly enjoyed the house. Thanks for everything!” I am, therefore, honestly surprised by this negative review, fully one year after the tenant’s stay. As I have never previously retained a guest’s deposit and this is clearly an anomaly given our other positive reviews, let me explain the facts from my notes last year in order that prospective guests may see the story from my perspective:

This guest and his family stayed at the farmhouse 7/29/13 through 8/5/13 while he was purportedly going to JAG School in Charlottesville. When we went to clean after they'd left, we found gum in the carpet of the living/dining room, gum on the kitchen floor, sticky spills on most of the surface of the granite counter, cereal strewn all over the dining and living room carpet, the garbage disposal as well as the dishwasher clogged with cabbage, rice and pasta. It appeared that they literally cleaned the plates into the dishwasher after clogging the sink.

My cleaners spent twice the amount of time to clean the house, I paid $200 to have the carpets cleaned, and $100 for extra bandwidth usage on the internet that was used during the guest’s stay. That’s why we retained the security deposit.

The ATT device is 4G, with a tower less than a mile away. I just reviewed the ATT records for the period of the guest’s stay, which illustrate that the guest used 11Gb of data during that week. The rental agreement clearly states the following:

vii) High speed internet service is provided via ATT wireless broadband, with up to 1Gb usage (accommodates web browsing, email, etc.). Please keep in mind that streaming movies uses a significant amount of bandwidth and will be charged at $10 per Gb. A movie generally takes 700-800 Mb.

Most guests love the house and actually leave it nearly as clean, or sometimes even cleaner than it was when they arrived. This is what we do when we rent a vacation home and have the same expectation for our home. Unfortunately, it seems that these guests just didn’t care.

“Relaxing Weekend”
Reviewed June 23, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We had the most relaxing weekend imaginable in this beautiful little house. We spent hours sitting on the front porch, watching the beautiful horses and, when we tired of that view, we moved to the back deck where we grilled steaks for our dinner. The house has everything you need and the kitchen is well appointed. Despite the fact that there were things to do nearby, we never wanted to leave. A little piece of heaven in Virginia!
