Thank you for your visit and kind words. We look forward to welcoming you again soon..
The wine was really good, but I was a little disappointed in the views there. We stayed for a couple of hours though enjoying the wine.
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're delighted you liked the wines. Did you manage to walk to our large concert field? This area has the nicest mountain pastoral views which change with the seasons and depending when we bring our cattle to the neighboring fields. We will soon bring our Adirondack chairs and leave them in these areas. Our large English border and cottage gardens will begin flowering soon too - a main attraction in the warmer months. We hope you come back and see us again when we've got more color on the mountain and gardens.
We have visited the winery and have attended the Meritage flight tasting event in the past, usually around Jefferson Birthday. The winery pairs several of their vintages with heavy hors d'oeuvres. Would love to go again this year but cannot find any information on the event!
Thank you for leaving us a review regarding the Meritage Vertical event, and an inquiry about the event this year. Traditionally we did the Meritage Vertical in April, around Jefferson's birthday. Last year we conducted the event in November and will likely do the same this year. We will post this information on our website events page as soon as we have more details. In the meantime, if you have further inquiries, you can communicate with us on Jefferson Vineyards Facebook messenger.
Visited 4 wineries in Charlottesville VA this Thursday and planning to visit more in this coming month.
The first stop was
1. Jefferson Vineyards
Great location and beautiful view: the wine tasting was great, our guide was knowledgeable and very attentive to our questions. Overall, excellent selection of wine tasting. You can select basic wines or big red reserve tasting which I did. Plenty wines to sample. Oysters crackers to neutralize your palate between wines. You can keep your wine glass tasting.
The Meritage is excellent and it was my favorite. ( interesting wine where the winemaker has blended 3 already matured wines ).
I bought a bottle among other two other big Red.
Of note: their wines have a large % of Petit Verdot grapes which for me is unusual being French because in France we call Petit Verdot monsieur 5% ( Mister 5%).
3-5% is the norm or less of Petit Verdot in the Bordeaux wines.( very very few wines in France with high % of Petit Verdot).
Petit Verdot is a difficult grapes and a late ripping grapes in comparison of other cépages like the Cabernet Franc or Cab Sauvignon and Merlot. Nevertheless, it is interesting to have in Virginia this cépage.
Loving the wines in Virginia and Jefferson Vineyards was top notch in the wine selection, friendliness and cleanliness.
Great staff and definitely will return.
Thank you for your kind words and sharing your experience. We're delighted you enjoyed our wines, including our Meritage. You are right about Petit Verdot. We use it a lot. It does very well in the Virginia climate, especially in our vineyards and because of it we were one of the first wineries in Virginia to bottle it - we've experimented a lot with it over the decades. In the next years we will be releasing several Petit Verdot reserve wines which are a testament of how well this grape varietal does in Virginia. We hope you enjoy the other wineries you visit and look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
Good wines for a Virginia winery, but in the $30 range there are many great wines to choose from that would be in a much better class.
We thank you for your visit and feedback. Kindly note our classic wines range from $18.95 to $31.95, with many wines priced in the $19's and mid $20's range. In our Classic Line-up, we only have two wines priced $30 and $32. Both, are fuller bodied wines that over the years earn prestigious awards in San Francisco and East Coast wine competitions. We feel this pricing is comparable to other award winning wineries of similar size in Virginia. Thanks again for your visit.
We had a good wine-tender, very knowledgeable about wines and the history of the area. The tastings were $12 each and included a complimentary glass.
Thank you for visiting our tasting room and sharing your experience with us. We look forward to welcome you back.
