We were just looking for a quick bite - this restaurant stood out on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We opted for the aubergine/eggplant following recent recommendations and had a selection of other appetizers followed by a Kabob combo to share. I thoroughly recommend the Chai (green tea with cardamon). The food was delicious and staff attentive - if we were around longer we would definitely return.

The eggplant appetizer was amazing! The food in general was pretty spicy, but I would call it more of a warming spice rather than being totally overwhelming or unpleasant. The yogurt and mint drink balanced the spice nicely. I was not a huge fan of the aushak- I thought the filling was a little bland considering how flavorful everything else was- but the critiques end there. The baklava was among the best we've had at a middle eastern/ Mediterranean restaurant (in this country at least!) and the firnee (rose-flavored custard) was addictive. And again, the eggplant!

What a great introduction to Afghan food- hope to return next time we're in Charlottesville!

The food was excellent! Everything was fresh, tasted homemade and was well presented. We tried the Monto for an appetizer and it was amazing. Homemade dumplings with a delicious garlic sauce. The chicken kebab was excellent but what was outstanding as well was the butternut squash as the side dish. Highly recommend it. The price was great as well. We stumbled upon this place, so glad we did! Wish this place was closer to home!

We live an hour and a half from Charlottesville, but ate here twice in one week... It's that good! The lamb tika kabob and gyros platter are our favorites. It seems that some Afghani food is very similar to Indian cuisine. If your and Indian food fan, I'd recommend the bourani badenjan (eggplant with a yogurt sauce eaten with naan bread), samosa goshti (triangular deep-fried pastries stuffed with meat and veggies), and the manto (steamed dumplings stuffed with spiced ground meat and topped with vegetables in a sauce). I'd probably recommend more, but these are the only ones we tried. Definitely have some firnee for desert; a rose water and cardamom custard that is sprinkled with shavings of pistachio.

Aside from delicious food, the decor and atmosphere are nice, service is great (very friendly), prices are very reasonable and it is a very clean establishment. Conveniently located about two miles down Emmet Street from the Hwy 29 split to DC, anyone passing through should stop by and enjoy! It's a new C'ville favorite for us!
