My sister and I booked a last minute one-night stay here last week when a friend visited from out of town, so the hotel gets points for accommodating our hastily made online reservation. It's also hidden away in plain sight, blending in perfectly next door to the Darden Business School. So it may be hard to find, but if you are a visitor to the business or law school, this is probably the quickest and simplest option.

However, having stayed at other hotels in C'ville (like the Hampton) I would tell folks who are either staying longer or intending to see other things besides the professional schools, to try another place. The property is nice on the outside but indoors it appears a bit old, tired and dilapidated. Bathroom fixtures look like they're from the 1970s, the bad lighting made our room a little gloomy, and while the rooms are tidy, everything could use an update.

Aside from the obligatory gym (which was bigger than I expected) there is a nice recreational area with billiards, shuffleboard, and foosball, and even a small coffee bar (which I assume is free). I wish the hotel staff had told us about this earlier because we definitely would've taken advantage.

We are glad we were able to accommodate you and your sister during your last minute trip to Charlottesville. While our hotel did not meet your expectations, we are taking your comments seriously will certainly reminding our staff to mention our game room to our guests. All of our guest rooms have had flat screen tvs added and the furniture refinished in the last year. We would hope that you would our hotel again on a future stay.

We came down for a concert at the JPJ. Pretty much everything was sold out, but we found a room at the Inn at Darden. What a great place! The staff was so friendly! The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. I hesitated because we are used to a king, but we did not even notice that it was just a queen sized bed. We helped ourselves to the complimentary breakfast in the morning and enjoyed it in the courtyard out back. Especially for anyone interested in staying on a gorgeous campus.....Highly recommended.

I wish I had found this place years ago. Although somewhat out of the way on North Grounds at UVA, it was easy to bus or drive to downtown Charlottesville and surrounding points of interest. Nothing fancy, but clean, comfortable, reasonably priced accommodations in a beautiful, quiet setting. Loved the outdoor patio area for coffee, figuring out activities for the day or some reading time. Fan in the bathroom was very noisy and we had some problems with room temperature, but nothing major. Will definitely stay here again.

We take pride in our atmosphere and are glad that you enjoyed it was well. The outdoor patio area is a very popular area with our guests, weather permitting, - glad you were able relax there during your stay. I do apologize about the noisy fan in your room, if you could let us know which room you were as we would like to repair it if necessary. We look forward to seeing you on your next visit to Charlottesville.

Excellent alternative to a chain hotel in the area. The hotel is an old dorm turned into an inn. It sits in the center of campus,a mere 15 minutes from downtown and 20 from the Jefferson's estate. Very quite and peaceful surroundings. The rooms are very spacious, and for the price the amenities are plentiful:
Free parking, wifi, continental breakfast, evening snacks, iron, and access to a gym. You can also use UVAs gym/pool for an extra 5 dollars.

GLBT friendly too.

Thank you for your review. To clarify, the Inn at Darden was never a dorm, when the inn was built, it was primarily as a hotel to support visitors to Darden. We are open to the public for any and all guests to Charlottesville. We are happy that you were able to enjoy our amenities and look forward to seeing you on a future visit to Charlottesville.

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel and I had a great experience. The room is very clean, cozy and quiet, the staff very friendly and helpful and the location is great if you need to do something in the UVA surroundings.

Ive just missed some tables and chairs in the guest area, in order we could eat our breakfast. During my stay I had to bring my food to my room in order to eat in a more comfortable manner.
