Food was good. Service efficient. Different appetizers were a nice Touch. Cigar rolls were tastY. The restaurant has a weird vibe. Tables are cramped. Music loud and prices a bit high. Worth trying but would not frequent.

The food here is very good. It will be a tad spicy if you don't request otherwise, but they have no trouble accommodating our 9-year-old. The menu has some standard dishes but also many that you won't find at most Thai restaurants, here or elsewhere: the roti (a bread I'm more used to seeing on Indian menus) comes with a delicious curry sauce. The seafood dishes come with large shrimp, scallops, and squid pieces that stand up very well to the strong sauces. The service is wonderfully friendly and the bar extensive, and they play the most interesting mix of music--at a good volume that doesn't drown out conversation--of any restaurant in town. There has for a while been a lot of Thai food in Charlottesville, but most of it hasn't been very good--this restaurant is MUCH better than the Thai restaurant on the opposite side of the mall or than Thai '99--but spinoffs (Monsoon Siam was founded by someone from the local Tara Thai branch, and Bangcock 99 in Crozet by someone from Thai 99) seem to be saving the day.

We love spicy food and went to this restaurant many times when it was owned by original owner...so delicious. It recently changed hands and the food is not nearly as good. Scarce vegetables in the curries and they all tasted very similar. Seems like they dumped in a bunch of Thai red pepper sauce before they brought food to table. We miss the old Monsoon.
