The place had been highly recommended to us.
Maybe that's why expected too much.

First of all, it was freezing. And the fans coudn't be turned off because the smoke of the kitchen (located right behind the bar), as we were told when we asked if the thing above our head could be turned off. I guess because the smoke had to be whirled around the whole restaurant?

My husband's fish was bland, the quality of my hanger steak was a little bit tough and thus far from excellent. Potato cake and Gorgonzola that came with it was far from anything special.

Loud place (music, voices), not homey for that and for the cold temperature in the beginning and the windy fans all the time.

Good for anyone who likes that kind of experience when going for dinner. I prefer less party atmospere and more quality.

We moved to another restaurant for the rest of our dinner.

This Belmont district restaurant is a lively and pleasing spot. It serves a wide range of excellent pastas (a couple in our party recently back from Bologna thought the Pappardelle Bolognese would pass muster there.) The others in our party had a very good grilled scallops in a beet risotto; another liked the locally-source pork. We shared a very tasty skillet of roasted mussels with a great sauce, which only needed a larger serving of bread. A good selection of wines and cocktails. A very pleasant dinner.

Arrived Monday night for dinner to a busy Tavola which says enough about the quality and service of the restaurant. Our meals and service were outstanding. Just read Msfoodie112 review/rant. Never saw the kind of behavior described at the restaurant that would justify this type of review. Believe we were close to this table and Owner/Manager was very apologetic. Heard them get comp'd 50%.

This restaurant is busy (a good sign, right?), food consistently very good and service always attentive and friendly. You should try it! As with all popular and good restaurants, you may have a wait to get seated. If so, enjoy the bar in back!

Dear Jill,
We are sorry to see this posted, as we thought we had addressed the problems you experienced. Once made aware of the problem, the owner immediately responded, apologized and took 50% off of your total bill. In spite of this, you threatened to post a bad review, and tried to blackmail us, saying you would not pay for the meal at all.

We've been wanting to try this place, but several times have been discouraged by long waits. Went mid week last week and there was no wait, but will not hurry back. Server suggested to me (the gluten free diner in the party) that the polenta on the menu would be fine with most any sauce. Great! I ordered such a combination. A few minutes later, the she returned with the news that the polenta would not "hold up" to the sauce I chose - no offer or suggestion for any other option was made. It would have been fine with me, but not the chef, I guess. It would seem to be a great idea for an Italian restaurant of this caliber to offer some pasta or pasta substitute for gf customers. I was able to navigate the menu, but still .. In my experience, a restaurant getting the great reviews this one gets is normally willing to be a bit creative for diners with food restrictions. This is apparently a take it as it is or leave it menu, so check before you go! Liked the ambiance, though.
