“Extremely disappointed in food quality and service.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

I ordered the leek beet Risotto with pan seared scallops. The scallops were completely raw in the middle. My husband ordered the carbonera with sausage and egg. The sausage was chewy and had an odd flavor.
The worst part was when we sent the raw scallops back, the manager tried to tean tell us that they make more of a sushi-scallop and its suppose to be raw in the middle.
I've been to 30+ states and I've never been to an Italian restaurant that serves "sushi" scallops and calls them pan-seared on the menu.
We also got the special for dessert - the apple tart. It was not a tart, it was an apple pie with a weird texture.
Also, the entire time we were there people were standing next to our table waiting to be seated. It was highly disorganized.
Overall the food was mediocre at beat and management is poor. Would not recommend.

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

The food was fantastic and wine was great. We sat at the bar and I thought it was better than sitting at the middle tables. The atmosphere was great and it's hard to imagine that what you see is what you get with that kitchen!!!! If you are from out of town, it's a must!

“May be the best restaurant in Charlottesville”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

I live in Charlottesville so I eat in this restaurant several times a month. This is a small place with an open kitchen. They depend heavily on local products. Everything is fresh and the preparations are as good as you will find anywhere. I am not generally a fan of hanger steaks but their's may be the best steak in town. That said, you cannot go wrong with your menu selection.

The only negative is that the HVAC system is undersized for the building. It can get a little hot and smokey some evenings when the place is packed which is every weekend night. They don't take reservations. But, there are some nearby bars where you can get a drink while you wait.

Certainly this place deserves to be ranked much higher than the current TA ranking.

“Good Italian Eatery”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

Broad variety of Italian dishes but no reservations taken and had to wait for a table. The service was slow and the room was noisy making it difficult to carry on a conversation
