“Lovely, welcoming inn!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2011

This inn was so nice. The staff and owners were great. Every convenience was provided and we felt very much at home here. We stayed in the Madison room and loved it. The bed and bedding were wonderful and it was a nice location away from the street. The only small problem we had was the shower: first of all, it's incredibly small and then the water temperature fluctuated like crazy. The bathroom itself is quite tiny and there isn't much room to put all the "girl stuff" I carry around with me. We forgave all that though because everything else was so wonderful, including their delicious breakfast. It's in a great location, and we walked to several restaurants they recommend which were outstanding; the best of which was ZoCaLo. Try it, you'll love it!

Our first visit to C'ville and didn't know if we should stay outside of town or in. Glad we chose Dinsmore, what a great location to work all of town. University of Virginia is just to your left, downtown just to the right and a free trolley is less than a block away to take you downtown. Chose the Veranda room, very nice, didn't get to use the veranda too much, a little rainy and trees were in bloom. Good breakfasts in the main dining room or the patio. Very comfortable bed (once you climbed up to it!). Nice dog Hanna will check on you at breakfast. Liked this place.

The Dinsmore House was everything it was advertised as and more. It was clean and friendly. The breakfasts were delicious. On our first day it rained and they event lent us an umbrella. Once the staff heard it was our honeymoon, they even gave us a bottle of wine to celebrate. When I go back to Charlottesville, I'm staying at the Dinsmore House.

My husband found this B&B on TripAdvisor and we decided to give it a try. We loved everything about it. Gail, the owner was just wonderful. So welcoming and friendly without being too obtrusive. We loved our room--we had a private entrance to the street. The breakfast room was so lovely and breakfast was absolutely delicious (eggs benedict, bacon, homemade whole wheat english muffins, fruit and scone..) I also used the indoor pool next door at the Marriott (at no charge) which was great. Parking was free and right behind the B&B. We also at an excellent meal just down the street at Maya (as per owners recommendations). Great food and great price. I can't think of a negative to say about this place. We only wished we could have stayed longer. Thank you Gail for such a lovely stay--we hope to be back!

The Dinsmore House is really lovely - well maintained, comfortable and friendly. It is right across from the Rotunda / UVA Medical Center and close to the historic downtown areas. Despite the house facing a rather busy street, the rooms were quiet - a bit bright with some nearby parking lot lights at night - but otherwise lovely. The food was very good, our room - The Dinsmore Room - was very large and airy, and the Inn's central location was ideal. This Inn is worth a return visit.

My husband and I have never stayed at a B&B and after MUCH research we chose the Dinsmore. Wow, what an amazing experience! We stayed in the Monroe room which was on the second floor and very comfortable (with big closet).

PROS: The owners/staff....family feel, friendliness, amazing food (must try the pecan crusted French toast-delicious), comfortable bed, window A/C, very clean, location, location, location (free trolly one block down)....and Hannah:)

CONS: only wish we had more time!

ATTRACTIONS: lots of restaurants in and around UVA but we enjoyed No. 3 (great burgers),TEN (sushi) in Downtown, and the BEST cupcakes and cookies was off a side street in Downtown----Cappallino's Cupcakes and cookies

Locals said to avoid Sal's and Rapture but recommended Eppie's and Siips Wine Bistro.

We really liked the history of this B&B, the location right next to the heart of the UVA campus, and the helpful staff. We stayed for two nights. Upon arrival, we parked in the Courtyard by Marriott's parking garage, where the B&B has some spots. Check-in was smooth. Our room was small but nicely decorated, with a flat-screen tv (there are DVDs available to borrow if you want a quiet night in). My only complaint was that the bathroom was very cold, but I guess older houses have these sorts of issues...

The wine and cheese in the late afternoons was nice, and we also enjoyed the breakfast, though of course options are limited.

The location was excellent--it's less than a five-minute walk to the famous Rotunda at UVA, there are many restaurants and bars nearby, and downtown Charlottesville (not the campus area) is easily accessed by a free shuttle that stops across the street from the hotel). The staff members were helpful in directing us to places we wanted to go.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay.
