“Horrible hotel”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

We stayed in a room on the second floor--the beds were horrible, old saggy mattresses, like sleeping in a hammock. The beds sagged so badly that you could not sleep two to a bed, so we asked for a cot (hotel was full for an event so we couldn't switch). The room's heating unit was broken so the room was either freezing or hot, and the microwave was unplugged and there was no place to plug it in...was sort of a prop. Great location, decent lobby, but the room--with an outside entry--was terrible. The exercise room also had a lot of broken equipment. Hotel is in need of a renovation.

you must have our hotel mixed up with another hotel, if you did stay at our hotel your review is flat out an incorrect statement, our beds are less than 3 months old and we use the same brand of beds and linen that Hilton hotels use, as for our fitness center, everything is brand new and is top of the line equipment and not one single piece of equipment is out of service. I hope next time you write a review it is done with facts.

Have stayed here once before and chose to stay here again recently. The main reason to choose this hotel is it's modest rates and proximity to UVA and more specifically JPJ Arena which is walking distance. The lobby is very nicely decorated and kind of makes you expect the rooms to be as nice. Unfortunately, they aren't as nice as the lobby. However, that's not to say they are bad. They are functional for their price and provide a good nights stay. The east side rooms face out towards the road and have a glass enclosure in the hallway which is really weird, where as the other west side rooms facing the parking lot still have the original iron railing open to the outside. The breakfast provided honestly isn't that great, which is like most other hotels of this rating/value. Overall, it does the trick for a quick nights stay.

The staff are very nice, breakfast is ok, rooms are average. Our door to the room didn't close properly. The price was a big factor ($75 in Dec. thru Expedia) that we stayed there. There is plenty food to eat. Just wished thy would add more fruits to their choices.

I stay at the Cavalier Inn whenever I come to visit my son and daughter at UVA. Location is very convenient, you can walk to the corner and on the grounds. Breakfast is good and very handy to have. Wireless works very well which allows me to work from there if needed. Staff is friendly. Decor has been updated and is much nicer than a few years ago. All in all a great deal for your money.

I was in town for a Thursday night football game. The lobby was welcoming and staff were very friendly and courteous. Checkin was a breeze. I chose this hotel based on several factors (location, price, and most of all...being able to bring my dog). The room: fridge, microwave, older decor but linens, carpet, etc. looked very updated and nice. Bathroom was small but don't really care since I don't pick a room based on that. The free breakfast was good and on Saturday included very tasty biscuits and gravy. My only two minor complaints were: Not being able to control the heat in the room. I was on the street side with the glassed in hallway. The room was often very stuffy so we had to open our door to let in the cool air. Since the system was set to winter mode in the hotel, there was no other option. The other was reported to hotel staff that when the unit above would flush their toilet, it would leak from the ceiling down to ours. Like I said, not a deal breaker, but wanted to be accurate in my description. I would definitely stay again but would request room on other side (parking lot) to see if it was cooler...or I'll bring a fan. Being dog friendly was definitely a plus! I couldn't be the price either.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing the parking lot.

Hello

We appreciate you taking the time to write a review for us, we were happy to see that your stay was a pleasant one; we are very much a pet friendly hotel and now offer a special "doggie bag" to our four legged guests. We do apologize about the thermostat that failed to work properly; unfortunately new things sometimes don't work properly we just installed them not too long ago and we have had a couple that had kinks in them, so thank you for letting us know about it. We hope to see you and your pet on the next trip to Charlottesville.

I love staying at the Cavalier Inn. It is convenient, the staff is friendly, and the price is right in off-peak times. Highly recommended for visitors to UVA. Best breakfast with plenty to eat!!!
Tripadvisor keeps telling me this isn't long enough.

Based on some of the reviews, I booked this room with some trepidation. However, it was very close to UVA where my daughter was going to visit. I was prepared to check in, check it out, and leave if it did not meet the minimums. Well, it was far better than I had The staff was professional and couteous. The room was clean, flat screen, fridge, microwave and small coffee maker. Bed was comfortable, large selection of channels on TV.
The lobby was very pleasing to the eye. The room was a bit small, but, i did not spend a lot of time in the room.
The breakfast was average at best. Usual coffees, cereals, breads and bagels. There were some waffles, but, no protein items. This breakfast was still far superior to one I had at a $180 hotel recently.
Still, this was a huge value for the price and I would stay there again if I find myself visiting UVA.
