It is with trepidation that I write this review. I am totally in love with this hotel, and I want to see it stay in business. BUT I don't want TOO many people to fall in love with it--it's already hard to get a reservation! Why on earth someone would stay anywhere else is beyond me. The ambiance of this hotel is magical--the pool is my favorite of all pools I have EVER visited in a hotel...the staff friendly, the breakfast above and beyond good. We have been to this hotel at least 10 times--sometimes just coming up for a getaway, sometimes to see a concert. It's a 4-hr. ride for us--and well, well worth it.

We booked one night at the English Inn because it was cheap and we were en route to another location. We were pleasantly suprised by the friendly staff and the bountiful, tasty breakfast the next morning. The TV didn't work very well, the bathroom was not exceptionally clean, and the pool looked dark and murky, but otherwise we were pleased with our stay.

Our family has been staying at the English Inn for the last 10 years on different occasions. Most of the time it is because of medical visits to UVA hospital. When my husband had a transplant I stayed here for almost 4 weeks and the staff went out of there way to really make me feel safe and secure while staying there alone. They were helpful and concerned for me in every way. I consider it my home when I'm in Charlottesville.

I recently stayed in the English Inn of Charlottesville along with my entire family (four rooms) for our son's graduation from UVA. Everything about our stay was wonderful, from the quiet, comfortable rooms to the delicious, hot breakfast buffet. The thing that impressed me the most was that, after our return home, I realized that I had left something in the room. I phoned to let them know and, within minutes, received a call back saying they had retrieved my lost item and were shipping it back to me at their expense. That is truly remarkable service. We love the English Inn and will continue to stay there as long as we visit Charlottesville.

We stayed here last month when my daughter and niece ran in the Charlottesville half-marathon. This hotel is hands-down the cleanest I have ever had the pleasure to stay in. The front-desk staff are cheerful and efficient. We didn't have an opportunity to partake of the breakfast as we were watching the marathon - 6:30 am was an early start. Sort of difficult to find - we drove by it and had to turn ourselves around - but other than that, no complaints. Beds were comfortable and plenty of towels. Don't pass this one by!

We selected the English Inn after reading the reviews. The two things that sealed the deal for us was (1) they have a sauna and indoor pool (we love saunas) and (2) a great Internet rate. This hotel is pretty much sold out most of the time, so we were happy we made our reservations 3 weeks before our arrival. If this is a last minute decision, you might wish to check out the hotel deals at the various Virginia tourist offices, as the English Inn offers a $69 walk-up rate, but I think this would probably be for a standard double.

This hotel is very quiet at night, making for a very sound and undisturbed night's rest. We had a king room and it was very comfortable, and the added bonus of a small kitchenette with microwave and small frig was a nice surprise.

Our plan was to enjoy Milan Indian Restaurant (just up Rt. 29 - very convenient) and spend a day antiquing along Route 29 along with a visit to Culpepper. This hotel's location was ideal.

The hotel staff was fine. The (included) breakfast was ok. I found the breakfast room pretty depressing. Also, the tables at breakfast were pretty crowded together, making you feel like you were always in someone else's conversation. But I imagine this is because they host so many charters and groups staying here.

if you are enticed by the "gourmet cookies and tea in the afternoon," be aware that the cookies are out of a package and cannot compare to a Hampton Inn's cookies. The sauna and pool were very enjoyable.

If you want luxury or a special romantic time away, you might want to stay in a pricier hotel or bed and breakfast. But this hotel is clean, quiet, comfortable, and a great value for very pricey Charlottesville.

Our recent stay at the English Inn of Charlottesville was so wonderful that I had to sign up here (at the suggestion of my friend who was already a member) and provide my feedback. My wife and I and four children typically visit Charlottesville once or twice a year to see family and friends. We have stayed at many hotels in the area, but the English Inn is by far the best we have experienced. From the old-world charm of the lobby to the modern and well-appointed rooms, the hotel offers the best of everything. The staff were all friendly and helpful and really provided the "personal touch" that many hotels lack these days. The included breakfast buffet was incredible - they had different offerings each of the days were were there, including scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, an array of pastries and cereals, etc. Certainly one of the best (if not the best) breakfasts that I have had - and it was included for free! The kids loved the large indoor pool and spent many hours there. I definitely know where we will stay on all future visits to Charlottesville and would highly recommend this hotel to all.
