The lobby and setting of this hotel are very nice. We stayed in a regular non-smoking room on the 5th floor (not the executive level). The room smelled a little musty, but otherwise was clean and spacious. The noise was an issue as the room was near the elevators and we needed to be up at 5AM. Amazing that people feel there is no issue with talking loudly to each other at 11:30pm!

Room Tip: request a room away from the elevators

The Charlottesville Doubletree is a very nice place in a great location. It's away from the campus and downtown traffic but not so far away that it's an inconvenience to go downtown. There are a lot of shopping opportunities around the hotel and some great places to eat too.

As for the hotel, it is very clean and the staff are top of the line there! I guess my only complaint about the Doubletree is the size of the bathrooms. It's impossible to take a shower with the door open for ventilation, but other than that I highly recommend it. I have stayed there the last four years to attend a convention that's held there in March. The staff treat us wonderfully.

The food, the bar, and the drinks are always top notch! There's more than enough food served when eating at TJ's or ordering room service.

It's a beautiful area of the state to visit and the Doubletree is a beautiful hotel.

Stayed for a special occasion. The desk staff was great. Got to our room and the first thing noted was the light, worked by the first switch, was out and a lamp in the room was missing a bulb.

The room was, overall, nice. The bathroom was claustrophobic. The bathroom door could not be open when inside. The tub didn't drain properly (took a short shower and water was up to my shins by the time I got out). There was no ventilation in the bathroom; turn on the shower and a minute later the steam was floating around like a heavy fog going nowhere.

I don't understand the placement of the coffee maker. My wife set it up so all she had to do was turn it on in the morning. She hit the power button and nothing happened. Turns out there wasn't even a plug near the coffee maker. Had to put it in the bathroom to make coffee. Is this common these days…?

If you're making reservations online, don't opt for the extra expense for the paid for in advance breakfast. The breakfast is what every other hotel offers as the complimentary "continental" breakfast replete with the same fare. The only thing special was they had a chef who custom makes an omelette for you. I was the only one who showed up for breakfast with the vouchers. The other guests didn't have any and none were presented with bills, so I paid an extra $20 for what I could have had without paying extra. There was no other place I saw to have breakfast in the hotel.

To top off the whole experience, we left something behind. Called the staff twice and have never received a return phone call so someone on the staff now has new stuff courtesy of us.

I have stayed at places that charged half what we paid here and had just as nice rooms and breakfasts.

Yes, they do give you fresh cookies upon arrival. (want more, just ask!)
I have stayed at The Double Tree many times in the last few years on business, for pleasure and with my family. It is a very nice establishment for all of the fore mentioned situations. The staff is professional and well mannered.
If your traveling for business you may want to stay on the executive floor. It is quiet and accommodating with an exclusive complimentary lounge on the same floor, good for networking, meetings, or to just relax with a beverages or a small plate of snacks.
If your traveling through Virginia on a vacation, this is a nice town to stop in.
There are quite a few attractions with in an hours drive. Charlottesville is a college town packed full of shopping and Dining choices. Also, if your interested in antiques, the town just adjacent to Charlottesville, (Ruckerville) is loaded with stores.
At the Hotel you'll find a heated indoor pool, enclosed in an atrium, open 24/7, an exercise facility and an on-site restaurant, that the whole family can enjoy.
The adults can enjoy the full bar. (Tim makes a mean Manhattan) The food is very good as well. If it's breakfast you fancy, The Double Tree offers a plethora of choices in the dining room breakfast buffet. Including a real live omelette chef making tasty made to order dishes.
The rooms are spacious and clean, the beds are always comfortable, and parking is plentiful.
The location is central to Virginia and right off of of route 29.
The price here can vary, I would suggest looking into the packages they offer or booking pre-paid if your fairly certain of your date. They also honor Hilton points and AAA ,AARP etc.
Stop in, give it a try.

Room Tip: Upon arrival you can often "upgrade" for as little as $14.00, just ask. Hilton Honors members can sometimes :"upgrade" for free.

I noticed the shower heads were not low flow. Considerable water flowed out. Nice location and very clean. The conference rooms were a little noisy. You could hear what was going on next to you. I paid a little more than I wanted to.
