“Not a hotel for business people!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2012

I've had to stay at the Doubletree only because my company has a contract. I've been here half a dozen times over the past year and keep running into student groups. It seems the hotel likes to cater to schools and universities which means lots of noisy kids up and down the halls all night long. Not good for the business traveler who has to get up early. The walls are paper thin which means you hear every scream, screech and laugh coming from the students rooms. You would think the hotel would be savvy enough to separate business travelers from student organizations. Food is adequate at best. Always seems to be something wrong. On this last trip not only did I run into students but no ice on the floor. I was on 5 th floor and had to go to 3rd to get ice. The elevator did not work. The tv had bad reception (snowy picture for 2 days) and the hot water ran out every morning and my tub did not drain.

Business travelers should stick to Hilton Garden Inn or Omni.

I have stayed in this hotel twice already for concert and must say that i have not had a negative experience yet. My girlfriend and I have stayed there to go to a concert both time. the hotel does have a shuttle and are very helpful, but shuttle will not pick you back up. if going to a concert, make sure that you leave early because traffic can get bad. but overall very good experience.

Room Tip: Try booking through Priceline, com we got the room for %65 off original price.

I enjoyed the location and the room service was excellent. There was a crane outside my window at 6:30 AM to install a boiler! I complained about the noise and being awakened by it and was refunded one night of stay. I also found an insect in the room and reported it. I expected better from a Hilton chain. But it was good to see the prompt response and customer service of the Front Desk Staff.

Since I can't give a half-star, I'm going with four. The hotel did many things right and really nothing wrong, but I was only there for one night - so I feel like some of the things that usually win me over such as a great staff, etc., didn't have the opportunity to do so. I stayed in this hotel for a particular, personal reason on this trip, and would probably look around if I came back to C-Ville to be closer to downtown - but would have no issues if I was made to stay here again.

Positives:
- Great room rate - got a government leisure rate for $88 pretax, including the breakfast buffet for 2 adults and 2 kids.
- Solid Doubletree breakfast - omelets to order, some fresh fruit, etc. I've had better (including at other DTs) and don't know the specific costs since it was included in my rate, but it's absolutely a step above many "hot breakfasts" included at hotels.
- Had a nice restaurant and bar on site, although kind of small. Didn't try it out, but it seemed pleasant and was close to full. It's nice to not have to leave the hotel or resort to expensive room service to eat.
- Beds were typical comfortable Doubletree bed.
- Free parking.
- Nice size room, included comfortable chair for sitting at desk and a mini-fridge.
- Staff was very friendly in limited interactions.

Negatives:
- HDTVs with no/limited HD service always makes broadcasts look worse.
- Location isn't great - it's about 3 or 4 miles north of the university off of 29, and overlooks strip malls and Sam's Club. Easily accessible if you have a car though.
- Some elements of hotel are out of date - the phone system did not call the wake-up call line (either by dialing or by button) and I had to personally contact the front desk.
- The bathroom was abnormally small, at least in my room. Not enough room to turn around with the door open.
- First floor of hotel leading to gym/pool from elevators is under construction and has musty/paint smell and look. Pool and gym are accessible via staircase from the lobby - where you avoid all of the construction/renovation.

This is a good hotel, by any stretch - if it offered the same everything, but was closer to downtown, I'd have no hesitation about returning, and certainly at the rate I got. The location would make me look around though, but there's nothing that the staff or anyone at the hotel can do about that!

Room Tip: Room on even side (I was in a 28 room) look more towards mountains (and a shopping center) rather th...

Just a little north of city center, this hotel has excellent rooms, and beautiful views of the river and dam. Good restaurant and bar with friendly service. Shuttle service to almost anywhere you want to go in Charlottesville. Comfortable, friendly place for visitors and guests.

We enjoyed a great holiday weekend escape to this hotel. Rooms, restaurant and bar were all very good. Neighborhood is not walker friendly...definitely need a car to get around. There's so much to see in C'ville we will definitely return.

Room Tip: Hotel was a very good value for rooms, restaurant, bar. Needed a car to get around town...nothing wi...

We stayed here for two nights with our new puppy. Expedia rate did not include breakfast; it appeared almost everyone else had a breakfast coupon.

Breakfast had a nice eggs/omelette bar, plus the usual fruit and steam dish options, cereals, etc. Overall somewhat better than average.

Nice pool and workout room.

Staff very friendly. Facility well maintained. Location a bit odd, tucked away beyond Sam's Club.

Room Tip: ninth floor is executive level.
