Although the rooms are well-maintained and clean, the front desk service could use a great deal of coaching. Having worked for Starwood hotels as a Front Desk associate, Front Desk Manager, and Housekeeper manager, I feel qualified to say I know what to look for.

At check-in, the gentleman who checked us in waited until he finished counting his til to acknowledge us. The gentleman standing next to him texting on his cell phone didn't even look up. The next morning, when I needed assistance with their computer, the gentleman who was at the desk not only did not acknowledge me when I approached the desk (he, too, was busy on his cell texting), but I had to say prompt him to notice me. His assistance with the computer was sub-par at best, with first a great sigh at having to help us out to then just staring at the computer, clicking on the image of Google maps, and then saying, "Yeah, I don't know what's wrong with the printer. Maybe try the other computer." Well done. This same promising star of customer service the next morning had to be stirred from whatever was so important on his cell phone yet again just so my wife and I could check out. I was also at no point acknowledged as a guest, just be room number. Don't worry, I don't have a last name or anything. And isn't it usually policy to not ask a guest for their room number? You know, in case someone else around is trying to find out where you're staying? Maybe it's not for Hampton Inns, and that's fine. But being addressed as "Mr. so-and-so" or even ADDRESSED would be a big step in the right direction. The old 1/50 rule comes to mind: at 10 feet, acknowledge the guest with a smile; at 5 feet, acknowledge the guest with a greeting.

Will we stay here again? Only if the other hotels are booked.

I did not pay attention when we booked this inn, and was surprised to find no fitness room, just an outdoor pool only open a few months a year. The room was smaller than those of any other Hampton Inn we have stayed in. The sink console was in the tiny bathroom, where the coffeemaker had to be moved from the sink-side in order to have any space for toiletries. The closet was also quite small, with a perpendicular hanger bar – awkward to use (especially as the door on the left would not open all the way due to the positioning of the night-stand. (If one guest is sitting at the desk using a computer a second guest cannot get to the closet without climbing over the bed.) There was no chest of drawers for clothes storage. This inn is less costly than others closer to the center of town, including the central Hampton Inn and Suites, but be aware of what you are getting! I personally do not care for the squishy pillows that appear to be the mode these days, but the bed was comfortable. There is not much in walking distance unless you have come to C'ville to go to a shopping center. Breakfast was the standard Hampton Inn offering, with a good variety of cold and hot choices. Desk staff were very pleasant.

Room Tip: The Roman shades do not completely block the sun in the morning, so if light bothers you ask for a n...

We were headed to Charlottesville to visit Monticello and Ash Lawn-Highland. On the drive to the hotel, we stopped at Montpelier, James and Dolly Madison's estate. Hotel was only a short driving distance from these estates which we visited the next day. Hotel is also located near several shopping malls and chain restaurants. Drive from Monticello back to hotel on the second night enabled us to stop and park in the historic downtown location where we walked around the pedestrian mall. Here you will find a collection of interesting shops, eclectic food options and depending on the weather, a collection of outdoor musicians. We had a great meal at a place called The Whiskey Jar (see my review). The hotel's king-study room was smaller than I expected but it was fine for our needs as two adults ... room would be a tight squeeze for a family with one or two children. We had clean linens and the usual amenities including a mini-refrig and large flat-screen TV. My only complaint about the room was a noisy air conditioning unit during the night; didn't seem to bother the husband but I'm a light sleeper. Hotel staff were very friendly and customer service-oriented. Breakfast was the usual fair for a Hampton Inn with hot and cold options.

This hotel meets Hampton Inns standards. Rooms are clean and very comfortable. The layout is nice because the a/c does not blow directly over the bed. The pillows are comfy -- always a plus! Breakfast offered the usual variety of hot and cold choices kept well stocked by the staff. Nice touches at check-in with fresh-baked cookies and in the room with pretty fan-folded towels, tissue, and even the toilet paper. Staff was very courteous and welcoming. Location is convenient to interstate. We would definitely stay again.

We toured UVA and stayed here for one night. Very clean, friendly staff - one minor problem, taken care of immediately. Walking distance to Chili's, a greek diner and CiCi's Pizza as well as some shopping (TJ Maxx, Big Lots, Office Depot). Definitely would stay here again!

Room Tip: We were on the 4th floor - pretty quiet.

Upon arrival at hotel, I was later arrival than originally planned. Only room available was a smoking room. The front desk people were cordial and were very apologetic. They helped me the following morning with another non-smoking room and even delivered my bags to my room while I was out visiting family. I can't thank them enough. The rooms are very nice and the hotel is in a very nice location, for shopping and getting things at a store. There is a Kmart and Kroger within walking distance and a Chilis restaurant about a five minute walk away. Also, the breakfast they have is vary good and has a good assortment, and it is changed every day with hot food. Overall this hotel is value for the money. You can go cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: Middle rooms are best for quietness. The end rooms tend to be a bit noisier beacuse of elevators and...

My husband and I stayed here in early September to visit Monticello. Our room was clean, smelled fresh. Towels and linens were of high quality. Free breakfast was Hampton Inn standard. Breakfast area was clean and attractive. Hotel was close to restaurants and shopping. Monticello was about 15 minutes away. I would definitely stay here again.
