My wife and I generally stay at Marriott locations when we travel. We typically know what to expect and are seldom disappointed.
This time we stayed in a one bedroom suite and found it clean, comfortable. The staff was very attentive, helpful and friendly.

In the final report, we will return to this location as it was an above average experience for a Residence Inn.

Room Tip: We typically choose to stay on a higher floor but where provided a first floor location and didn'...

Good location -- though not quite "central," it's right behind the extensive and good Barracks Shopping Malls, and Charlottesville's a small enough town that you can get cross-town in 10 minutes from here anyway. (I did, because I attended meetings at the Omni on the other side of town.) The unit was to be a "double," and it turned out to be a large suite, at no extra charge, with bed, sitting area with couch (probably a pullout), huge and excellent TV (42" maybe) on a swivel, FULLY equipped kitchen, with not only plates, bowls, cooking utensils, flatware, cooking knives, etc., but also dishwasher, stove, etc. All for the price of a regular hotel room. Kept very clean. The included breakfast was superior in choices available and quality. Real scrambled eggs, for example, the way you might make them yourselves; lots of sides, even salsa for those eggs. Many choices of breads/pastries, cereals, fresh fruit....

We have relatives in the area so have visited C-Ville often. We have stayed at the Hampton Inn downtown, the Omni, The Doubletree and the Courtyard next to the University. This place was the best so far. The location is perfect if you want to be near the University and excellent shopping. It sits right behind the Barracks Road shopping center which is an outdoor mall with many brand name stores ( Black and White, Banana Republic, Barnes and Noble, etc) with eateries, like Panera Bread, 5 Guys burgers, a CVS pharmacy and Kroger's grocery too. Nice thing is its within easy walking distance of the center. The room we had was a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite with a full kitchen and living room with a fireplace. Prefect for a family of 4 so we didn't get in each others way. The suite had 3 flat screen TV's, on each bedroom and one in the living room. The best part was it was a very nice property and we paid less of r the 2 bedroom suite than I've ever paid for one hotel room at any of the other places I mentioned. WHile the street it is on is a busy one, our room was erectly quiet. Actually less noise than most of the others I've stayed at in town. We will be back.

Room Tip: We were on the 3rd floor in the back of the hotel so it was very quiet. A bit further to walk but we...

I'm not sure if all Residence Inn's have this policy. If you call them and try to book, they automatically transfer you to some international booking department. I want to talk to someone about the hotel who is actually AT the hotel so I can have specifics about the hotel answered.

We do not normally stay at a Residence Inn, but chose this location based on availability over a three day weekend. Met our expectations as far as the room, cleanliness, etc. The rooms are large and have a kitchen area. Bathrooms are small but functional. Bed had plush top and was very comfortable. Hotel was full but we had no hallway noise, perhaps bc the beds are back away from the door, compared to most hotels. Breakfast was far better than at most hotels, with eggs, sausage, strawberries, etc. along with all of the other standard items. Desk staff was friendly and helpful. We forgot toothpaste, called downstairs and it was at the door in just a few minutes. Asked about local wineries and received a map and personal recommendations. Conveniently located to UVa and old downtown area, but not within walking distance. Close to Barracks Road shopping.

This Residence Inn continues to provide good value for one's money. The location is close to UVA's North Campus (Law and Business Schools, Army JAG School) and a medium size shopping center which includes a wide range of shops and restaurants (cooking stores, card shops, a book store, jewelers, a supermarket, clothes stores, outdoors/fishing stores). While a bit of a hike, you could walk to the stadium on game day if you are fit. Directly behind the hotel are the UVA intramural fields which include a lighted walking track. The rooms are simple, but clean, and well maintained. My bed was comfortable, but the pillows were a tad soft. The room includes a basic kitchen. I found the free breakfast to have a good selection which rotates a bit over a week's stay (freshly scrambled eggs, cooked potato choices, some type of meat, typical continental breakfast options - bagels, muffins, cereal and fruit, and, to keep you on your diet, a good oatmeal pot. Three nights a week, there are also light dinner options that are OK but not in the same league as the breakfasts. An erroneous phone charge was promptly squared away by management. Finally, the motel's parking lots are well lighted and there is a security guard on premises

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the rear stairs and elevator.

My husband and I stayed here overnight on a weekend hiking trip. Because we planned this trip on the spur of the moment, we could not get reservations at any of the lodges along Skyline Drive. Charlottesville was close enough to the hikes we had planned to seem like a good alternative and had the advantage of offering lots of restaurant choices for dinner.

The hotel was more than satisfactory and we would come back again. We had a one bedroom queen suite. The bed was comfortable and the suite was clean, spacious and attractively (if not expensively) decorated. We did not do any cooking, but appreciated the full-size refrigerator, as it allowed us to refreeze the freezer blocks in our cooler. The light bulb in the reading lamp in the living room was out when we arrived, but someone came quickly to fix it when we called.

Following the advice given in other reviews, we asked for a room at the back of the property and experienced no noise at all from outside the hotel. The walls between rooms, however, are very thin, and while sitting in our living room early in the evening before going out to dinner, we could hear every word of the conversation that the group in the adjacent suite were having. Fortunately, the hotel appears to be designed with living rooms adjacent to living rooms and bedrooms adjacent to bedrooms, and we were not bothered by noise from the suite on the other side of us when it came time for bed.

The included breakfast offered a generous set of choices -- waffles, oatmeal, cold cereal, yogurt, fruit, scrambled eggs, sausages, potatoes with onions and peppers, coffee, juice, etc. The food isn't quite up to restaurant standards -- for example, the yogurt parfaits were a very nice idea, but were less appealing to eat than to look at, as the granola on top had gotten quite soggy; the oatmeal was a little lumpy; and the scrambled eggs were a bit rubbery -- but all in all still well above the usual standard for a complimentary breakfast. The breakfast area is pleasant but small for the size of the property; we arrived early and got a table, but noticed other people taking food back to their rooms. Real plates and bowls were available for people who came early, but only cardboard plates and styrofoam bowls for people who came later, and coffee and tea were served only in styrofoam cups.

We had no complaints about the staff and the young man that I spoke with when I called in the morning regarding our room request and again when we checked out was especially pleasant.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back of the hotel and it was very quiet.
