“People watching, live music, and delicious food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

The downtown mall is an eclectic section of downtown closed off to road traffic. Pick up dinner from one of the local restaurants and go down to the pavilion for a free concert on Fridays, or people watch at one of the many outdoor seating areas along the street.

“Downtown Mall, the heart of the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

The downtown mall, constructed in 1976, has become the heart of Charlottesville. Anchored on one end by Intelos Pavilion, featuring national acts and the Omni Hotel and a 6 screen movie theater on the other, in between, you'll find over 55 restaurants either on the mall or in a block on either side, offering a variety of dishes and price ranges. Some offer outdoor seating. For entertainment options there is the Paramount, a restored early 20th century theater offers a wide variety of entertainment; from ballets, movies, plays, and music to the Dali Lama; the Jefferson Theater offering live local and national musical acts. Less then one block off the mall, there are several clubs featuring music, as well as Live Arts, a wonderful performance space for plays, Of course there are many shops to browse or you can just people watch, which is always popular.

“Entertaining for adults”

Due to helping our daughter move, we got a late start on checking out the downtown. It is cute, with some interesting shops, an amphitheater, many restaurants with outdoor dining and even a roller derby!

“walking mall part of Charlottesville experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2012

Bricked over street now a mall lined with shops, restaurants. All varieties, all styles. Always find something new it seems. Concerts in summer "Fridays after 5" a lot like a beer party with proceeds going to support worthwhile causes. Why they ever changed the model of walking to now allowing (restricted, but watch out!) cars to cross in a couple of places seems just crazy. You can tell the out of towners by the fact that they use the crossings! No self respecting C-ville resident does!

“I great piece of C'Ville that is often underappreciated”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2012

The downtown mall is great for a afternoon or evening walk to experience the sights and sounds that is Charlottesville. A lot of quaint shops to browse through. A bunch of restaurants to experience. On one end, you have the intelos wireless pavilion that often has great concerts during the spring, summer and early fall. Check out Fridays After 5 for a great way to kick off the weekend. The other end is the Main Street Arena (formerly Charlottesville Ice Park). The person who bought the Ice Park has really done wonders for that end of the mall. Use to be just an ice rink but now they have concerts, sports, MMA, and host a bunch of events. Even have a pretty decent restaurant/bar inside.

Overall, downtown Charlottesville is a great place to walk and enjoy Charlottesville life!
