Celebrating America's Independence Day at Monticello was an unforgettable experience. Most everyone had an American flag, red white and blue on clothing, even pets where patriotic so were foreign visitors from Japan, Finland and other countries.
Since it was a steamy day, the shuttles were very much appreciated along with the lovely Monticello Shop and various exhibitions at the center.
A must do will entail Tour Jefferson's House, Explore the Grounds and Gardens and Walk the Saunders-Monticello Trail.
What a day spent in the company of Thomas Jefferson!

Spent the day taking the 3 tours and walking around this attraction. Enjoyed taking in all the history associated with this very good part of VA.
Only thing is the shuttles need to be more friendly to the elderly as we saw a elderly lady slip as she tried to board and did some serious damage to her shin with blood everywhere. Hope she is alright.
The shuttle driver didn't seem to care at all and just sat in his seat . Thankfully the security person and the lady doing the boarding sprang into action and helped her.
The driver didn't even do anything to clean the trail of blood that was brought into the shuttle by boarding passengers who had walked through the pool of blood at the doorway. Very disappointed at this drivers attitude to what had happened to this poor lady.
All in all except for the above we had a great time.

We went to Monticello the first week of October, First, the house tour was so crowded that you could not see or hear the guide - only people. Second, the house tour seemed to be about Sally Hemmings not Thomas Jefferson. There is a Sally Hemmings exhibit so I do not feel it was necessary to spend the majority of our house tour on Sally Hemmings. When we left Monticello we went to Montpelier (James Madison's home) a great tour. Save your money and go to Montpelier instead,

I wasn't expecting to be there for 6 hours and really could have stayed longer. The behind the scenes tour was worth it too. Don't miss the Sally Hemming's exhibit so well done. Don't miss the other tours all included with your ticket the slavery tour is also very informative. We visited Poplar Forest Jefferson's retreat home about an hour away prior to Monticello and I think seeing both was really eye opening. So much of the architecture makes sense when you see the other home.

I recently visited Monticello with some dear friends. We were fortunate to get an amazing guide named Lacey Hunt. She was extremely professional and informative. She answered every question and was extremely positive. As fate would have it, we hit the tour guide lottery twice! We went on a tour of the gardens and had a precious tour guide named Jane Rogers. She was extremely educated in naming all of the beautiful plantings and even told me how to get the perfect picture of the house! I highly recommend this visit!
