Mabe because Monticello is a place on my bucket list, we really enjoyed our visit. There are multiple tours to take, depending on your interests and time. The Behind the Scenes tour was the only thing definitely NOT worth the time and money--we hardly got to see anything additional and the tour guide wanted to talk almost solely about his involvement with Monticello.
As a bonus, the cafe offers a very good variety of interesting, healthy food.

Visited Nov 1st, it was quiet and we recommend this time of year-the huge car parks were almost empty.
The staff at the welcome centre were very helpful, offering advice on our visit and recommended the children's activity centre for our 5yr old.
We took the short bus ride up to the house and again were warmly welcomed by more of the team. After a short talk in front of the house we were introduced to our guide who commenced the tour. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable as she walked us through the house. We were able to ask questions at any time in an informal, relaxed environment.
The house is indeed beautiful, well maintained as are the grounds.
We then walked the gardens and caught the little bus down to the graveyard.
We skipped the museum and the theatre presentation as we were short on time and head heading to Montpellier. We did however visit the children's activity centre as advised.
Our daughter loved this! Likewise we were very impressed that Monticello has put so much attention into looking after youngsters. Although only 5, our daughter grasped so much of the history from this and we really recommend this to any parents.
Of the Presidential homes we visited on our trip this was our favourite, don't know if I would like it a much if it were busy with coach-loads of visitors.

The tour guides were very knowledgeable. The tours are very busy and you do feel a bit like cattle being herded from room to room as one group moves ahead of you and another group ready to come to the room you are leaving. Nice grounds to see after to the tour and lovely shop. $17 admission charge per adult is a bit hefty as you see only the main floor.

We had to wait 2 hours for the tour but it took that long to walk the grounds and enjoy the scenery. It was a beautiful fall day with the leaves near peak and a crispness to the air. We bought apple butter and blueberry preserves at the store which are the best I've ever had. the tour was informative and interesting for all ages.

The home of Thomas Jefferson is a real treat to visit and enjoy. This house represents the early struggle of this family and the servants they employed. After a tour of the house then you can walk the grounds and gardens. No time limit to your visit so pack a lunch and enjoy.
