We were looking for a hotel in the middle of Charlottesville so as it was getting late we chose the Omni. Well it was a big mistake. Firstly it was expensive, nearly three hundred dollars for one night. We asked for a non smoking room and were told that they were all non smoking. So when we got into the room we were surprised to find that it had a very strong smell of tobacco. We called the front desk and were told that it was their only room, which I didnt believe, and then they said that all the old smoking rooms had been completely cleaned and it shouldnt smell. Well it did. I then found that I could not open any of the windows to get some fresh air. I then ask the front desk for the code for the wifi and was told that I would have to pay an extra $9 a day for it!! $300 and I still had to pay for an internet connection!!!

Room Tip: Dont stay there

We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent stay at The Omni Charlottesville. It sounds as if you were in the hotel during UVA Commencement weekend which is why we were unable to provide you with a room change. The event sells out our hotel a year in advance and it is rare that we have any rooms available on such short notice. Regardless of our high occupancy, we do feel that every guest of our hotel should have a room that exceeds their expectations and we apologize that there was a lingering smoke smell in your room. Several rooms have recently been transitioned to non smoking and we will have our housekeeping team revisit those rooms to ensure that all odors are eliminated. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you will consider giving us a second opportunity to provide you with a stay that exceeds your expectations.

What a pleasant surprise we had staying at this Omni. The staff was so friendly and helpful - every single one we encountered - bellman, reception, restaurant. It was also so quiet and relaxing here. We only were staying one night while touring UVA, but if I come back this will where we'd stay again.

Great place if you don't want to have to drive. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but there were over 50 restaurants within walking distance. There was a lot of shops nearby that support the local artists, which we love. Our only complaint was the pool size was small and it got crowded quickly.

Room Tip: Do not book through Mileage Plus.

Have stayed in many 4 stars over the years and this stay was pushing a 3 star stay at best. Beds not very comfortable, rooms claimed to be upgraded but dated, bathrooms very small and 1 (out of 2) elevators was down for complete stay creating wait times up to 5 minutes.

I stayed at 3 star hotels (Marriott and Best Western) several miles outside of downtown C'ville that were more than half the cost with better beds and more room. If you have a car and willing to drive into downtown for UVA, nightlife, medical center, etc. stay outside of downtown area as this may be your best bet if you are looking for value.

Thank you for your review from your recent stay with us. Please accept our apologies for the elevator work that took place during your stay. We were in the process of installing high speed elevators but we are now happy to report that all elevators are back in service. We do regret to hear that our beds were not to your preference. Should you decide to stay with us again in the future please let us know if there is anything we can do to help make the bed more comfortable for you. We have different pillows, bed boards, hypoallergenic bedding, and other options that will allow us to adjust the comfort of the bed to meet your needs.

My wife and I stayed at the Charlottesville Omni recently for a weekend in VA wine country. Though I was looking for a country B&B in the surrounding area, I was not able to find one with available rooms so I chose the Omni despite the high price ($240/night - military) . Well the location turned out to be fantastic. Charlottesville is small enough that "the country" is only a few miles outside of town, and it's location at the head of Charlottesville's pedestrian mall was great for dinner (Zo.Ca.Lo and Fellini's #9 - both great), drinks, shopping, etc. For folks who like to drink, having a ton of choices and being able to walk back to your room is priceless. When we checked in we were sent to a double room, despite reserving a king. Annoying, but the man at the front desk quickly found a single king for us. The new room was decent size and had your typical hotel amenities - WiFi (for $9.95 unless you're a Omni rewards member, which I became just to get the free internet), coffee maker, flat screen, etc. On Saturday morning I noticed a weird smell near the bed and realized someone had thrown up on the floor near the nightstand. I've been that guy so I didn't freak out. Then when my wife and I took showers the tub didn't drain quickly enough, so we were left standing in an inch of water. Annoying, but not the end of the world, especially if you think that the hotel doesn't cause clogs - guests do. On our way out to Barboursville Winery (fantastic!!), I stopped by the front desk and told the girl about the two problems. She said she'd send an engineer to fix the drain and have housekeeping scrub the carpet. When we got back that afternoon the carpet smelled a little better, so I could tell someone had at least tried to scrub. That evening the same girl from the front desk called the room to see how the problems were. I told her the smell was better but hadn't tried out the shower yet. At that point she had a complimentary bottle of wine sent to the room for our troubles. One other other small annoyance from the day is that the maid did not restock the the little coffee service. Anyway, Sunday morning we showered and found that the drain had not been fixed and was just the same as the day before. Not cool. We then had what was actually a very decent breakfast buffet in the spacious dining area before checking out and doing our thing for the day.

Overall, the ups of a nice sized room, the excellent customer service from the front desk, the unbeatable location and free self-parking outweighed the downs of having to switch rooms, the high-ish price, the slow drain and the carpet. I feel like most of the downs were bad luck - if we had been in the next room over, everything wrong may not have happened. The Omni has five-circle potential and I would stay here again if I come back to Charlottesville.

This was our first experience with an Omni hotel and it was a positive one. The Omni Charlottesville was in a perfect location! Being able to walk to the downtown mall was great. We went each evening for dinner and it was nice to enjoy some drinks without having to drive. It was also very close to Monticello, which was the main reason for our visit. I really don't have major complaints about the hotel except that when we checked in, no one even explained where the pool was and there were no signs in the lobby pointing it out. Not a big deal, but we had to ask someone. The other complaint was the breakfast buffet at the restaurant. We got there at 8:30 on a Tuesday and there wasn't any plain bagels left. When I asked one of the servers (who I saw take the last one for himself), he said there weren't any more. Again, not a huge deal except my nine year old doesn't like much else! Overall, we had a good trip and I would definitely stay there again.

Location is perfect. Staff is pleasant. But the elevator situation is a joke. They originally had 3 but permanently took one out of service a long time ago. Now one of the remaining 2 has been under service for weeks with weeks to go. And they still sell out rooms to bus loads of people leading to 15 minute lines. They did not warn people or discount the rooms despite this. And our rooms all had stains on the sheets and sheets and left over garbage from the previous guests.

Please accept our sincerest apologies for the issues you experienced during your stay. We were in the process of installing high speed elevators. Unfortunately, it created a greater impact on our guests than we anticipated. We are happy to report that the project is now complete and we are grateful for the patience of our customers. With regard to your housekeeping issues, we are disappointed to hear the state in which you found your room. Your review will be shared with our entire housekeeping team to impress upon them the importance of making sure all details of each room are inspected. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and we truly hope you will give us a second opportunity to provide you with a wonderful stay.
