“Great hotel, highly recemmended!”
Reviewed September 8, 2008

This hotel was top-notch, in my opinion. Plenty of parking. The front lobby was under construction, upon entering, but the smaller front desk was easy to find. The front-desk lady had our reservation already waiting for us, absolutey no waiting. The room was very spacious and had lots of amenities, microwave, fridge, etc.. Plenty of towels and washclothes. Pillows and bed sheets were spotless and comfortable. The pool was older, but in great condition. This was a great experience for us and our 6 year old. We will definitely be back if in that area again!

We booked on priceline as 3 star. It was not even a 1 star and felt unsafe. Got in late, there were men standing outside that stared us up and down, who were smoking and from beer cans saw inside later, probably drinking. We think people used as hang out for bus stop. Not a good start. No real lobby area as under construction but ramshackle appearance continued. Room was musty and old looking. Asked for another room and not much better. Saw another man in hallway who did not look like guest by our room. Saw "tall boy" beer cans in brown bags in trash in hall then. We left at this point because felt unsafe! Called Priceline to ask for transfer to any other hotel- we did not care what star level. They said NO because Mike at Holiday Inn would not let us out of reservation. We called Mike and he said no. We then had to pay for another room at another hotel. Out a lot of money, but better than staying at that Holiday Inn!

We stayed three nights, July 3,4,5,2008 and positives: the room was spacious, we had a King bed, check in and out service was quick, excellent maid, great location near downtown and close to local tourist attractions, safe location,we were able to see the fireworks from our room, sliding glass door windows, the indoor pool, exercise room, soda machines, coin laundry were all beside one another., 4 HBO channels, we paid $48.00 using Priceline.negatives: older hotel, under construction, small, but adequate bathroom, small indoor pool, 3 to 5 feet, needed some work, mostly for small children. We would stay here again.

Stayed here for a night while visiting Charlottesville/Jamestown. Didn't spend much time in the room except for showering and sleeping. Good internet access and convenient location!

This semed to be an older property. There were a few steps leading up to the lobby.....luggage wheels won't be much help to you there.

Our room on the top floor was clean, updated and more than adequate. No problems with our room itself, but the walls separating us from other rooms were thin. Sound traveled easily from one room to another. This can be a real problem if your neighbors aren't quiet.

Priceline room rate: 48.00/night
Parking: free self-parking

Okay, now this hotel is quite interesting.

Rooms are okay, make sure to get a room that faces the back unless you want to hear sirens from 29 and traffic.

The hotel restaurant is deplorable "First Place Grille" is more like Last Place Grille".

The hotel staff are acceptable but nothing to write home about.

If you have rooms on certain parts of the hotel you have to access your rooms from the outside.

One housekeeper called it "The Dungeon".

Pool/Fitness center are on the 2nd floor and is small and a lot of chorline.

My wife and I stayed in the Holiday Inn in Charlottesville, VA during a visit to see our son at UVA. The rooms are nicely appointed however they are not sound-proof. The first night we noticed that we could hear the TV, radio, and regular speech/talking of our next store neighbors.

On the second night we were awakened at 1:00 AM by a large and unruly party in the room next door. We complained to hotel management in person because the front desk would not answer the telephone. We followed-up with 4 telephone calls to the night manager. The party continued to 2:30 AM and was broken up by the Charlottesville Police. Hotel management took over 1 1/2 hours to respond to our multiple complaints.

We desired a place to sleep and did not get it. We asked for a refund and were given one night for free.

We will not stay at this property again.
